Back Home

I returned home late yesterday evening. Plenty tired from the training and the drive. Everyone seemed happy to see me and glad I was back. To prove that I was actually working in San Antonio, here are some pictures from the training. My batteries were going dead and I was trying to take pictures when I had a spare second. I didn't get very good ones but they are proof I did more than drink virgin daiquiris on the riverwalk.

This is the "gauntlet." Don't you want to walk thru a bunch of "redmen" wondering which one is going to attack you!

One of our participants going one on one with a "redman."

So see there, I did work while I was gone. Very important stuff.

I also received two of my anniversary presents while I as in S.A. When I arrived back to my office last night, the husband had ordered me a cowgirl picture. It had been delivered and was sitting in my office. Then when I got home, I got my other anniversary present....

my new spurs that we custom ordered. Cool, huh! Aren't they so pretty. I told the husband I was going to wear them to work today with my heels. He said he didn't think that was a good idea. What a party pooper! I think they are awesome. The husband has been wearing one of his anniversary presents already...work boots. Plus, he said I could pay for the mineral feeder he got for the cows as part of his anniversary too. We are just so romantic.

With all this anniversary talk, it got me to thinkin'. Leading up to our 10 year anniversary on August 9th, I am going to post vignettes about us meeting, dating, gettin' engaged and married. I have all kinds of good stories to keep ya entertained. Can hardly wait, huh!

Out of Town

So I am facilitating a defensive tactics training in San Antonio this week. Luckily, I didn't get put in the "handicapped" room this time I visited a big city! Wasn't that nice of them. After work today, we went down the riverwalk to eat supper. Ate at Joe's Crab Shack and enjoyed an "adult" beverage! Nothing better than ordering a virgin daiquiri. I am soooo cool like that!
Hopefully, I will have pictures of my training tomorrow. We will be all suited up in gear so the participants can hit us. Pretty nifty, huh!
The husband is at home, working and taking care of the animals. Think he is already wanting me to come home. Misses me so. You may want to give him some words of encouragement in the comments. I can't help that I am so awesome that he never wants to be away from me. :o) It's a curse really but I guess we both have to live with it.
And keep the names coming for the horse. Got some good ones coming in!

Help Name the New Horse

We have come up with a few ideas but I thought maybe one of y'all out there might have a better one. So what do you think a good name for the new horse would be? The previous owners said his name was Geronimo but they called him Ronnie. But that is my dad's name. I can't go out there and yell Ronnie at the horse. So we want to give him something new.

Tell us what ya think! Post your suggestions in the comments area.

Another New Horse

Yeah, we got another horse. This time, though, the husband was more influential in the decision to buy it. It had no papers, so it's true background is unknown. But we were told it is a mustang that was used for about 7 years on a ranch in South Texas. The people we bought him from have had him around a year. And during the past year, he has not been rode but a few times. So a little tuning will have to be done. The husband liked him cause he's so short and cool. He asked if he got to have him after I broke Miss Priss. I said sure. He said well, maybe I can ride him after you get him settled down some. I said you better get me a round pen built! Miss Priss and Sally were not very excited to see a new horse on the place. Sally was letting him know that she is the boss around here. Miss Priss kept trying to jack with him but Sally would get between them. Sally finally herded Miss Priss off into the opposite pasture. We have him up in a pen for the night. Hopefully, they will all be sound in the morning. We will keep our fingers crossed. You know, we are the home of crippled horses!

The Latest Baby Updates

Here is the newest baby. She belongs to Ruby, my longhorn. Ain't she too cute. And ask the husband, she can run real fast! When we moved the cattle across the road awhile back, everyone came across but her. We tried getting her a foot but she took off and flew like the wind. The husband was chasing after her but was losing ground fast. She was such a pretty runner. Had her tail and head up. I imagined her saying, "Eat my dust old man!" to the husband as she so easily pulled away from him.

And the ugly baby birds have turned into the evil looking birdies. They look like little bird commandos protecting their nest. They have figured out my camera though. I got this picture but now when they see me coming, they duck down in the nest. Little stinkers! What kind of commando is that! Maybe they're chickens?

Mud Doggin'

This is our tank out in the pasture. We fed the cattle by it and took the dogs over to enjoy the water. One thing about our dogs, they love the water. Even little Harley. Pops will tell ya he's a fishin' dog. Loves to attack the fish as you reel them in. Well, this day, he was a muddin' dog.

He never makes it out far enough to swim. Just far enough to get really, really dirty.

He stands in the mud, he sits in the mud, he lays down in the mud.

He's so little, he high-centers in the mud. Doesn't stop him though. Keeps trudging thru it. He was so dirty the husband put him on the back of the truck to go to the house. When I stopped to pull thru the gate, the little stinker jumped off the flatbed! The husband couldn't believe it. He said it would be like one of us jumping off the roof. But Harley man was fine. The husband just knew it hurt him, but nope, the old feller didn't even blink an eye. I swear the little guy has nine lives. But living with us, he better!

Unconditional Love

There's in nothing better than the unconditional love of an animal. Maybe this is why I love animals so much. I would have dogs coming out my ears if the husband would let me. But he has limited me to four so far. Zena, shown above, is a love hound. She constantly wants to be petted, hugged or rubbed on the tummy. She will knock you down trying to lean up against you so you will pet her. I think she really has a disorder. Maybe that is the counselor coming out in me but she is obsessive compulsive about it. Never seen anything like it. But when you have a bad day, it sure makes you feel better. Cause you always know Zena loves ya.

New Task

The husband had discussed wanting a website for our cattle a week or so ago. I thought "how hard could it be? This blog thing is pretty easy. Didn't take me that long to get it up and runnin'!" So a little after lunch today, I got on the internet and registered our domain name. Did a little reading and decided who to use for the web hosting. Easy cheesy so far! Next task, pick a template and start entering the information. Wow, this seemed way too easy! Well, 8 hours later, I'm still trying to get information on the site. Adding pages, changing text, uploading pictures and videos. It might help if the computer would quit freezing. Kinda puts a kink in the creative process when you have to restart. It's a work in progress but if you'd like to check it out, the link is below.

http://www.crazymbuckers.com

The blog is much easier to maintain. But maybe after I get the initial stuff on the website, the occasional additions won't be so bad. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

The Importance of a Mom

Whether you are human or animal, moms are important. They provide us with love, nurturing and support. They feed us when we're hungry or clean us when we're dirty. We may squirm, roll our eyes or back talk but they do what is best for us.

I watched one of our cows give her calf a "lick-down" the other afternoon. The calf acts just like a kid. The expression on it's face was just like mine when my mother would lick her finger and wipe off something on my face.

Happy Birthday mom! Hope you have a great day. Glad I live far enough away that you can't use that licked finger technique anymore! Growing up, she always said I looked like an orphan. Can you believe that!

New Digs

Since we moved the cows to our side and bottom pasture, they seem to be enjoying themselves. The evening we moved them, they were already relaxing in the tall weeds. Yeah, weeds, wish it was grass but it's not. But at least they are green and make my pictures look pretty.

The Running of the Cows

On Sunday morning we prepared to move our cattle from the neighbor's pasture to our's. The husband had an ingenious idea when we were getting the new fence put in to have the fence builders put a gate in our fence and the neighbor's fence so we could run the cows straight across the road. He does use that noggin every once in awhile!

So back to Sunday morning, we set panels up in the bar ditch and across the county road. It's not like anyone lives out here anyways. Don't matter if we close the road down for a few hours. No one will really notice. And during the entire move, only one person drove up and he said he didn't mind turning around and taking another road. Ahhh, nice country folk.

Our lovely crossing for the cattle. Looks so inviting, doesn't it.

Look at the cows run. They are so excited to get across to our pasture. You wonder what made them so excited?

The husband had feed! Cows are like men, show 'em some food and they will follow you anywhere.

Not Your Ordinary Mary Kay Party

I was telling my co-worker about my experience this weekend at the neighbor's Mary Kay party. She said I had to put it on my blog. So here ya go.....

First, let me tell ya about our neighbors. They are lovely people. Will do anything for ya. And have done a lot for the husband and I. However, they are pretty redneck. I believe I was told they didn't have running water until a few years ago. Now the water is pumped in from the "tank". The house hasn't seen a coat of paint since probably the late 1920s. Grandma lives behind the house in a trailer and the son lives behind grandma's house in a trailer. So when the wife invited me to the Mary Kay party I was pretty skeptical. But I had to go.

I arrived promptly to find only the neighbor and the Mary Kay lady, who was missing her bottom teeth. The neighbor was mixin' margaritas for the party. I kindly declined the beverage and made my way into the party room. Shortly thereafter, more party-goers arrived. It was quite the crowd. Several wore confederate flag necklaces, one changed her shirt in front of us and almost all chain smoked. What more could you ask for at Mary Kay!

It was a very interesting 3 hours. I heard about the niece "tonguing" the boyfriend's picture on the camera. Actually witnessed the niece put makeup on the boyfriend. Met the aunt who was once a cattle truck driver and bought a tube of mascara. I believe my day was complete.

With all that said, they were all extremely nice and I enjoyed sitting and talking with 'em. I arrived home right before the husband. He was peering ever so hard at me thru his car window as he drove in. He just knew I was going to have blue eyeshadow with rosy red cheeks and big red lips. To his relief, I looked as normal as I can look!

Little Chirpers

The plight of the sparrow....The husband and I have had our fight with the sparrow for a year or so now. They made a nest on the front porch. The husband knocked it down. So they went to the back porch. He knocked that one down too. Then back to the front porch. We finally gave up. Plus everytime we would knock the nest down, they would dive bomb us for awhile. Nothing like comin' out of your house and havin' a bird swoop at your head!

Well, a couple nights ago we were on the front porch around dusk. I heard something from the nest. The babies hatched. Now, I always thought babies of anything were cute. It's just a known fact, a colt, calf, puppy, kitten, etc. are just so cute you want to squeeze them and hold them and you know what I mean. But now I have proof that not all babies are cute.

They seemed to be very hungry!

This one was making all kinds of noise! Poor ugly thing. It a face only a mother could love.

He finally wore himself out and decided to rest.

Dead Tree

Last night, the husband advised me that he didn't like the stories that have been posted this week. He wanted to know what was up with that and why I hadn't posted any pictures. Sorry, I said. So today I am posting a picture.

A few evenings ago, the husband and I were out picking up old wire along the new fence line. We were gettin' the pastures ready for the cows on Sunday. So while we were walkin' the fence, I noticed this dead tree. And for some reason, I had to get the camera out of the truck and take pictures. It's a compulsion really. Last night, I added some burned edges with my photoshop program and Viola! This is what I got. I really wish I had more time to learn my photoshop program and a computer that didn't take forever and a day to run it. But we make due with what we got. So maybe this post will get the hubby off my back! Should have some cow pics after Sunday. I know we had another baby yesterday so I will post it. Plus we are moving cows this weekend so I should have pics from that too. I know y'all will be checking back feverishly to see those! Until then, adios!

Another Love Story

I don't know what it is about the men in my building. Another one sent me an email today. He said this was my kind of love story. So here it is.....

The love story of Ralph and Edna:

Ralph and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital. One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool. Ralph suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there.

Edna promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom and pulled him out. When the Head Nurse Director became aware of Edna's heroic act she immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital, as she now considered her to be mentally stable.

When she went to tell Edna the news she said, 'Edna, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you're being discharged, since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis by jumping in and saving the life of the person you love. I have concluded that your act displays sound mindedness. The bad news is, Ralph hung himself in the bathroom with his bathrobe belt right after you saved him. I am so sorry, but he's dead.'

Edna replied, 'He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry. How soon can I go home?'

Redneck, huh!

So this morning, one of officer's in the building sent me this email. First off, this guy never sends me emails and secondly, why did he think of me? So here's the email....

Holiday Weekend

Man was it nice to have a long weekend. The husband was off Friday and Saturday too. We really enjoyed the time. He did buy me some sparklers for the 4th. But we fell asleep before it got dark so the sparklers are still sitting on the table. Maybe one night this week we can manage to stay awake past dark to light them! Not holding my breath though.

We traveled on Saturday to our most favoritest town. Went to a friend's party that night and bucked a couple of our bulls on Sunday morning. What better way to spend a holiday weekend. Our two year old bull, Death Wish, did well. He's still pretty big. Once he gets used to his new weight, I think he will be awesome. I downloaded the clip of him bucking below.

The other bull we bucked, Boss Hog, was less than spectacular. He's not out of any of our stock. The husband had traded another stock contractor for him and his momma. I think we are going to have a freezer full of prime Boss Hog steaks. He's gonna be good for something.

Happy 4th of July

Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Fireworks are off limits at our place. Don't want to catch the grass on fire. Maybe I can talk the husband into some sparklers! Have a great one!

My Complex is growing......

Yes, my complex is growing. There have been a few comments posted lately and I stress few. My belief that people are actually reading this blog is waining. I know, I know, y'all have told me your lookin' at it and enjoyin' it but from this end, I'm gettin' nothing. I really would appreciate some feedback as you read the posts. Nothing great or scholarly. Just a "you suck!" or "talk about something else other than cows!" or "tell me more about that." I beg you. The husband reassures me that more than just a couple people read it. I would like to know what ya think. So give it to me! I'll be waiting......
