Hangin' with the Kids

First, I have to say that I have awesome blogger peeps. So many of you offered to help with gettin' Diesel to Texas. Thank you! It's amazing how a lil ol blog brings so many people together. It appears that I found Diesel a ride with a fellow stock contractor from the East Coast. He just so happens to be traveling to Texas this week and offered to help. Fingers crossed, Diesel should be here at the end of the week!! I'm sooooo excited! I told the husband that I wanted to fast forward the week. He just laughed at me.

So I sat the other kiddos down and shared the news that they were gettin' a baby brother. There were mixed reactions. Pepper could care less. Harley said just keep "it" away from him. And Zena was so happy that she's gettin' a playmate.

Then we took the kids out to the tank. They love to swim especially Zena. She's my water dog.

Harley decided he would stay on shore today. Just got his tootsies wet.

They ran out into the pasture to play.

Then the husband picked up a stalk and Pepper, in typical JRT fashion, thought she HAD to have it and KILL it.

Which she did.

We had a good time with the kiddos.

Maybe next time I do a pic like this, there will be an additional lil boy!

Bloggers Unite!!

Okay, I need y'alls help. It's very selfish of me but if anyone out there can help, I know y'all can. Y'all know I've been looking for a puppy right? Well, I finally found what I wanted....a mastiff! I have wanted a mastiff for years but haven't been able to afford the booger. I put out some feelers yesterday about it and was contacted by Tami at Pennsylvania Wild Woman. Her sister has a 16 week old mastiff puppy that's just not working out with their family currently. They love him so and hate to part with him but he needs a new home. Lucky for me, I want to provide a new home to him.

So meet Diesel. (Don't you just love that name.) I stole this pic off Tami's blog.

This is him yesterday. Picture courtesy of Tami's sister. He's growing fast!

How can you resist that face?! So here's my problem....PA to TX!

How do I get Diesel from Pennslyvania to Texas? I have looked into pet transportation and it is very expensive. Tami has suggested a puppy convoy which I think is an excellent idea. So do y'all know anyone that could help us out?

Sir Limps Alot

The husband made it home yesterday with Death Wish. He said he didn't want to bring 'em home. He was still pretty upset at him. He threatened to take DW to the sale barn Tuesday night after their "incident" but rent-a-husband wouldn't let him.

The husband is hobblin' around. His ankle and leg are swollen. He said the bone feels a little funny yet he won't go to the doctor. He told me not to touch it. I am trying to talk him into going to get xrays. But the hubby doesn't have insurance (partly my fault). When he was laid off earlier this year, we thought he would be gettin' on at another company pretty quickly so I didn't add him to my policy. But he hasn't and I didn't so he has no coverage. I told him to go to the ER like other non-insured people but he said no. He doesn't want another bill. Whatever.

Last night, before going to bed, he said his leg was feelin' better. (insert my eyes rollin') My response, "Then let me kick it." Okay, so I'm no Nurse Nightingale. I was trying to make a point. This morning he said it was better cause it wasn't swollen. I just looked at him. He's been in bed all night, I wouldn't expect it to be swollen. I told him that if it wasn't swollen this evening after he's been on it all day, then I would think it was better. (insert HIS eyes rollin')

Death Wish

This is Death Wish.

The husband took him to a jackpot this evening. Wanted to see how he bucked with a rider. The bull is only three and we would like to get him sold.

Well, I got a call from the husband about an hour ago. He said Death Wish got him down in the back pen and hooked him pretty good. I asked if he was okay. He said yeah, he didn't think he broke his leg cause he could still walk on it. Lord have mercy! This is why the husband needs constant supervision!

Death Wish still hadn't bucked yet. So he was sittin' there waiting. Then he said the guys were loading him into the chutes and had to go. Now I sit and wait to find out how Death Wish did and if the husband is going to try and drive home tonight. I will recommend he stay the night and come back tomorrow. Never a dull moment round here.

You Know What This Means...

Yep, the fence is DONE! Didn't the husband do an awesome job on the gate. I just love it. Especially the decorative endcaps.

Now we need to make a sign to hang from the overhead to finish it off. Oh, and I need to paint it but that's nothing major.

The dogs don't know what to think about it. They are used to runnin' a muck!

Harley was gettin' to use his doggie door again. Yeah!

But we still have this issue. Pepper.

She is just small enough to fit thru the door. So we either have to keep her out of the yard so Harley can use the doggie door. Or leave her in and close the door. Arggg! Cause Pepper is not allowed in the house.

We tried closing it some and Harley could still fit. But Pepper managed to bust her way thru and eat Harley's supper! Lil Stinker! So for now, she's in the yard and Harley's door is closed. If we leave her out, she barks nonstop. She thinks she runs the ranch or something!

Now all I have to do is find that puppy. I've been lookin' but haven't found the right one yet. He's out there, I know it!

It Came a Turd Floater!

Oh my! The husband and I were outside minding our own business. He was putting the finishing touches on the yard fence, the gate latch. I was trying to take pictures of Stubby for our partner. From out of nowhere, it starts to thunder, the wind picks up, the temperature drops about 20 degrees. We figure it will most likely be a short shower. They've been missin' us all summer. But the husband goes ahead and rolls his welding stuff up and we head to the barn.

We haven't been in the barn 10 minutes and the bottom falls out! The thunder and lightning are bad. Zena is having a fit. Something pops in the barn and the husband says he saw sparks fly. We still don't know what that was.

I decided to step away from the door and sit in the middle of the barn on some sacks of feed, thinking that may be the safest place. The husband sits on a large metal tool box. HELLO!

The rain is pouring down.

Then it starts hailing!

I can't remember the last time I was in a hail storm. It ranged from pea to marble size. Luckily, it didn't last very long.

We waited till it let up a little. I shoved my camera down my shirt and we made a run for the house.

We were suppose to have our back pasture baled in the next day or two. Guess that will be put off until it dries out. One good thing about all this rain, besides we really needed it, is my truck finally got a washin'!

For Your Viewing Pleasure

The husband thought he would give the ladies a little treat.

He wanted to do a little dance for y'all.

So, here y'all go....

Welder on a Pole...

And people think I'm the goofy one of the relationship!

Friday Funny

I just love this commercial. Makes me laugh everytime I see it.

Maybe Itty Bitty could be apart of this herd. Not the mini sirloin burger part, just the herd in general!

Looking Forward

I am so tired of 100 degree temperatures. It's really misearable. It's so dry all the vegetation is dead or just nearly. You can't enjoy being outside. And I want to take pictures and play with the animals and go on walks or even runs and it's all on hold due to the searing heat.

All I can think about is Fall. I love that time of year. The temps moderate and you can enjoy the great outdoors.

I love football season, the holidays, wearing sweatshirts, wrappin' up in a blankie, taking afternoon walks with the dogs, leavin' the windows open, feeling the brisk morning air, heck just everything about Fall!
It can't get here quick enough!

Cowgirls Like Us

I so enjoyed reading all of your comments on the Cowgirls post. I think we're all cowgirls at heart if nothing else. It is an attitude and a presence that a woman possesses. And I think we are all very full of attitude and presence around here!

I really hope you will take time to got to the National Cowgirl Fall of Fame website. I grew up with it in my hometown and never took full advantage of it. I went there many times as a young person but didn't spend the time to appreciate the women that came before me and laid the groundwork for the cowgirls of today. It has since been moved to Fort Worth and I hope to get up there in the near future.

I wanted to share some of the pictures of the inductees that I stole off their website. (shhh!)

I just love those old pictures! Those were some awesome women. So go find out who they are!

Now, guess who the husband drew out of the hat for the giveaway sign. I couldn't believe it. But I know this gal pretty well and I have to say that the sign fits her to a T! It would be my bloggin' sis and fellow cowgirl, Train Wreck!

Thanks to everyone who participated. I'll have to start thinking of something for the next giveaway in September. Stay tuned!

Gettin' 'er Done

The husband and I have spent the last two mornings and some evenings working on the yard fence. We finally got all the 4x4 panels welded up. Now all we lack are the gates and overhead. Yeah!! So what do you think? This gonna hold our beasts?

Notice the husband doing a dance in the background. Goofball!

This morning we went to check the cattle at the lease place. I hadn't been there in awhile. The husband hadn't been there in about a week. Started calling the cattle up and realized about HALF of them were NOT there. Finally found them in the neighbor's pasture! So the husband will be working on the fence tomorrow. He's so excited.

Itty Bitty is still uber small! The calf she is standing next to is about 1 1/2 months younger than her and a runt himself. She's still smaller though.

I asked her if she wanted to come and live in my yard. She didn't seem to excited about the idea. I thought it was an excellent plan. But she's pretty stand offish.

Unlike these...

They wanted personal attention.

After all the slobbers, I made them clean my hands off.

Cowgirls

Another blogger, Mommy in Spurs, got me to thinkin' the other day. She was discussing the definition of a cowgirl. So I started ponderin', what makes me a cowgirl? Then as I sat there and thought about it, I really couldn't tell you. So I asked the husband and his response, "I don't know. That's a hard question. Let me think about it." Seriously?! I thought he would be able to spout something right out.

So I went to the Cowgirl Hall of Fame to see what they believe exemplifies a cowgirl. It states "it honors and celebrates women, past and present, whose lives exemplify the courage, resilience, and independence that helped shape the American West, and fosters an appreciation of the ideals and spirit of self-reliance they inspire." Wow, well I know I'm not hall of fame material so I better lower my standards!

Here is a list, that I finally came up with, of why I think I'm a cowgirl:

*I was born with cowboy/cowgirl genes. thanks mom and dad

*Started riding horses before I could crawl.

*Dipped snuff at the age of 5 (and quit shortly thereafter).

*Entered a beauty pageant as a teen and wore rocky mountain jeans as my formal wear.

*Can mend a fence.

*Can't live anywhere but in the country with my animals.

*Would rather wear a cap/hat than fix my hair.

*Can sort cattle horseback or a foot.

*Don't mind gettin' dirty. Was working cattle, got crap slung all over. Took my shirt off, wiped my mouth clean and kept working in my bra till the job was done.

*Would rather be in my boots than any other shoes.

*Enjoy the simple way of life.

*I'm a strong independant woman.

So I want to know what makes YOU a cowgirl. Comment and you will be entered to win the this sign. Isn't it cute!

The deadline to enter will be Sunday, 08/16/09, at 7pm central time. I can't wait to read your comments!
