Texas to Illinois UPDATE

We are trying to get a Doberman from the shelter here to her new home in Chicago.  We are still in need of a number of legs in the transport.  The transport will run from Texas to Oklahoma, than Kansas, Missouri and Illinois.  If you know of anyone out there that could help, that would be awesome!  We have her set from here to Oklahoma City.  Just need to pick up some car rides from there on.

I figured I would post on here since I have readers all over the United States.  If you think you can help, please contact Sandy at the Shelter.  The number is 254-754-1454.

I know what it's like trying to get your dog home.  I got lucky with Diesel.  The stars aligned and everything fell into place.  Let's hope Gail, the Dobie, has the same good luck!

The Out Takes Revealed

You have to muster up a lot of patience and happy thoughts before attempting to do our family picture.  Oh, also a tripod, remote and fully charged battery!

We made our first mistake before even starting.  The husband and I decided we better give Diesel something to chew on while we take pictures.  He usually does well with something in his mouth.  He was carrying his old tattered soccer ball around.  We gave him a new rawhide bone.  Well, he just ran off from everyone to eat it.  We tried to get it from him, he'd take off running in the opposite direction.  So after chasing him around the yard, I was finally able to get the bone and get him over to the picture area.

And so it begins with the round-up...

Now we just need everyone to face the right direction...

Ummm, Ruby let's get your face outta there.  And ummm, Pepper, you too!

Come on, work with me here!

I knew I shouldn't have eaten that bacon!

What the heck!

What's up with my hind end!  Everyone is looking at it!

There's so much going on here.  Harley attacking Ruby.  Diesel looks like he's bein' choked.  Pepper gettin' Lucky.  And yet we sit there like nothing's going on.  A typical day at our house!

But it all ended well.  This was the last picture taken.  Don't we look like we love each other.  After a task like this, it's amazing we're all still happy!

The stress of the photo shoot did leave me and Ruby looking like this though!

I think she's seriously reconsidering this adoption thing!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Word got out that we are having brisket for Thanksgiving instead of turkey!

Got quite a few evil eyes from the cattle!

Hope you all have a great Turkey Day, whether you're eating turkey or not!  I won't judge, unlike my cattle!

And congrats to Linda of Fat Cat Crochet!  She's the winner of the $75 gift certificate.  I put the total number of comments into the random number generator and it spit out lucky #7!  Drop me an email at: crazymbuckers@yahoo.com.

Giving Thanks

Yep, that's what I'm doing.  I'm giving thanks.  And do you know who I'm giving thanks to???  Hmmm, do ya?  Well, that would be y'all!  My very faithful blogger buddies!  I want to thank y'all for always being there thru the good and the bad.  I just heart you guys!

So my way of giving thanks is by having a giveaway.  Maybe you can use it to buy Christmas presents.  Or maybe you could treat yourself to something.  CSN stores has provided me with a $75 gift certificate (does not include shipping costs) to their online stores.  Maybe you need a drop leaf table for the holidays?  Well, guess where you can get one....yep, CSN!

I thought about what I would get with the gift certificate.  I thought maybe a jacket for Lucky cause his teeth chatters when he's cold.

Or Pepper a bag of squeaker balls.  I buy them for $1 at Tractor Supply.  She kills them in about 2 minutes.

Or Diesel a new soccer ball.  He LOVES to play soccer.  And he's killed the last two balls.  We have a jolly ball but it's so hard it hurts my foot to kick it.

Or I would get Ruby a super sassy blinged out collar cause she's worth it!

Of course, Harley would need his own cedar bed!

I think I spent WAY over $75!  But the kiddos are worth it!  I bet you can find something to spend that money on too!

To enter, leave me a comment on what you're thankful for.  Deadline for entering is Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 7pm Central Time.  Then head over to CSN and check out what you'll spend that free money on!

Good luck!!

Ruby's Home

Early yesterday, I got a call from the shelter stating they arranged to have Ruby spayed.  She was already at the clinic.  They asked if I could pick her up in the afternoon.  OF COURSE!  I called the husband to tell him the good news.  He was excited.  I asked what we were going to do with her for the night.  He said to put her in the house for the night since it was gonna be cold.

So after work, I hurried over to the clinic to pick her up.  The vet tech went over her paperwork.  Miss Ruby had some womanly issues, pus in her uterus to be exact.  Isn't that gross.  So she is on antibiotics.  And she tested light for heartworms.  The tech said it meant that she had some but should be okay with preventative.  However, every dog is different so I should have a full service vet check her out to be sure.  :(  Good news, the shelter gives you 30 days of pets insurance so I'm gonna use it.

The husband asked me to bring her by his office on my way home.  He'd never gotten to met her.  So we drove over.  She was really scared and wouldn't get close to him.  I think it hurt his feelings.  He decided to follow me home and help me get her in the house thru all our kiddos.  They did well when we brought her in.  Diesel barks at her.  I think he wants to play but she doesn't feel like playing right now.

I made her a spot in the living room to lay and the husband went back to work.  She stuck to me like glue around the house.  So I decided I would sleep in the living room with her for the night to make sure she felt safe. The husband came in around 1am from work.  When he walked in the house, she growled at him.  Not good.  But I think she was hurting and felt vulnerable.

This morning went well.  She was still shy towards the husband.  She did finally take a treat from him and allowed him to pet her.  She just needs to spend some time with him.  She's had a pretty traumatic few days and has been at the shelter for months.  This is all a big change for her.  We just have to be patient with her.

This was us this morning.

We spent the day together.  I took her out with the other dogs to socialize.  Diesel is the only one that messes with her.  Still barking.  She's not very fond of it.  I figure when she feels a little better, she may play.  I took her to town to get some hay for the calves.  She rides really well in the truck.  Sits right next to me and doesn't make a sound.  Now she's on her bed as I'm on the computer.  Harley is on his bed sleeping too.  I think our next issue will be making her an outside dog!!

Meet Ruby

I fell in love with Ruby when I first met her.  She's such a sweet girl.  I knew if she did not get adopted soon, she would be mine.  I waited and waited.  Well, waited as long as I could.  It wasn't until I noticed she was sick a few weeks ago that I knew I had to bring her home.  The weather had changed and the dogs got snotty noses.  It was going thru the kennels.  I couldn't stand seeing her sick.  I told the Husband I had to stop myself from getting her that day.  It was only because we were going out of town and I couldn't at that time.

Every time I'd go to the shelter, I'd walk by her kennel and give her treats.  She just tugged at my heart.  On Saturday I decided I couldn't stand it anymore.  I told the Husband that I wanted her.  He gave me "the look".  I've seen it many times before but I also know that he would allow his crazy dog lady wife to bring her home. I emailed the shelter that morning and told them she was going to be mine.

Monday, I completed the adoption paperwork and it became official!  They announced over the loud speaker, "attention, Ruby has been adopted by crazy kit!"  Oh how they love me at the shelter!  There is just one hiccup.  I don't want to bring her home until she is spayed.  My adoption costs included the spay.  Lucky is still intact so I can't bring her home until the spay is done.  Problem is getting her in to the clinic.  The shelter is doing everything they can, even taking 3 male dogs off the list to give Ruby a spot.  So right now, we're at a stand still.

After work, I go up and see her.  Today, she was out in the play pen with another volunteer.  He and I have become friends.  He loves Ruby too so he's been trying to spend as much time with her as possible before she leaves.  I brought her a new collar, name tag and bone today.  We sat on the bench.  She curled up next to me, laid her head in my lap and went to sleep.  Started snoring!!  I hated to take her back to her pen but I'll see her tomorrow.

I told the husband she would probably be "his" dog.  Her personality reminds me of Zena and Jessie (our very first dog).  They both loved the husband more than me.  He's not even met her but I think he's kinda excited to get her home.  Cause this morning he was asking why we couldn't get her home.  And how long was it going to be.  I told him we had to wait until the spay.  This evening he asked if he needed to call up there and get it taken care of!  Ummmm, NO!

So fingers crossed, schedules can get shuffled around and Ruby can get her operation soon.  AND that once she is home, my brats will behave!

Random

I love this picture even though it's blurry.  Don't pay attention to the blur! ;o)  Hope everyone has an awesome weekend.  We're headed to watch some young bulls buck in the morning.  Leaving the house at 5am, UGH!  Taking Harley and Pepper to the vaccination clinic on Sunday.  Than back to the grind on Monday.  Can you believe it's almost Thanksgiving!  Holy cow, where did the year go?

It's been a long day, can you tell?  I changed the subject like three times.  I better leave it at that.  Have a great one!

Chasing the Sun

Every evening I've been trying to get pictures of the calves.  But usually I have my hands full and then it gets dark.  This new time puts me in such a hurry!  I usually only have about 30 minutes of light when I get in from work.  And that's if I come straight home.

So I get home, run in the house to change clothes.  Run back out the door.  Feed the dogs.  Trot out to the barn.  Go in the calf pen and give out "treats".  Every day I'm getting a few more eating out of my hand.  I just love it.  But I can't feed out of both hands, hold the can between my legs AND take pictures.  I'm good but not that good!  The calves have started waiting for me at the gate now.  They're not spoiled or anything.  ;o)

Then I run back to the house and play soccer with Diesel.  Have I told y'all Diesel LOVES soccer.  I kick the ball, he runs and brings it back.  We've destroyed two soccer balls.  One in the last few days.  He's gotten really good though.  Sometimes when I kick it, he jumps and grabs it out of the air!  Pretty awesome.

In between kicking the ball for Diesel, Pepper brings me her tennis ball.  So I kick the soccer ball, then try to get the tennis ball from Pepper and throw it, in time for Diesel to bring his ball back!  Those two keep me busy.  And then there's Lucky.  He just wants to be loved on.

He hadn't been on the blog in awhile so I thought I'd post his picture.  He's still camera shy so y'all are lucky I could get a decent picture!  But he's doing awesome.  Great member of the family.  Glad he found us last year.  Hope everyone is having a good week!

A Passing of a Friend

A friend passed away this past Friday.  We had known him for years.  He worked at the feed store in our hometown and was always a wealth of knowledge.  He had bucking bulls as well.  Never was there a time when I saw him that he didn't have a smile for me and a kind word.

He was there when Diesel arrived from the East Coast.  I met the contractor that brought him to me at him and his partner's pens.  He would always ask about him, inquiring on how big he had gotten.

His death was unexpected.   It all stemmed from a bull hookin' his arm.  Nothing major.  But a blood clot formed and went into his brain.  The clot caused a stroke.  While in the hospital, his brain began to swell.  He was placed on a ventilator.  Finally, his family decided to remove him from life support on Thursday night.  He passed away early Friday.

One thing I take away from this is to enjoy your time on earth.  Don't sweat the small stuff, it's not worth it.

Arts and Crafts Show

The Husband and I went to our hometown arts and crafts show this past Friday and Saturday.  I was SOOO glad the husband could go with me.  For one, I'm a HORRIBLE salesperson.  I'm extremely hard on myself when it comes to my photography so when you don't think it's good, how can you sell it?  The husband got on to me Friday cause I would tell a customer the price, then say, "but I'll take whatever you'll give for it."  After that, I pretty much let the husband handle all the talking!

Harley and I sat off to the side.  He was so good.  That was pretty much what he did the entire two days.  Just laid there and napped.  He also brought a lot of people over.  He was a good attraction getter!

The show was at the local park, the one the husband and I were married in over 12 years ago.  We had a spot in the Rec center.  I reserved the bleachers which worked out awesome for the pictures.

And I was able to put a lot of my smaller things on the bottom bleachers.

We had mouse pads, calendars, makeup bags, magnets, postcards, mini frames, prints and framed prints.  The husband did an excellent job selling.  I was really pleased at what was sold.

There were a few distractions both days around our booth.  On Friday, the vendor next to us fell in front of our booth.  Scared us to death!  The paramedics were called and we had her sit until they arrived and checked her out.  The organizers kept apologizing for blocking our stuff but we were just glad the lady was okay.  Her husband finally came and picked her up.  Then on Saturday, the new vendor lady next to us was extremely ANNOYING.  She parked her motorized Hoveround chair in front of our booth.  People would try to get away from her and would completely miss our booth.  The husband did really well biting his tongue.  Turns out we weren't the only ones that she upset.  The organizers told us at the end that several others had complained.

The show helped me get over my recent frustrations with my photography.  I haven't taken the time to take pictures in awhile.  The only time I grab my camera is when I head to the shelter.  My booth in town has not been doing well and no sales from my website either.  I was thinking of closing everything and throwing in the towel.  I just saw it as a waste of money every month.  Now, I think I'll keep my website.  Added a Facebook page to help promote it.  Plan to keep my booth in town until Christmas.  Most likely, though, I will close it at the first of the year.  We'll just have to wait and see what the future brings!

Bad Cows!

Got a call from the husband this morning after I got to work.  He advised me that the cows and calves were no longer separated!  He went out to feed the calves and noticed some in the cow pen.  Then realized there were a few cows in the calf pen.  I can see him standing there scratchin' his head.

The chain on the gate broke and they managed to push the gate slightly open.  But just enough for a few to squeeze through each way.  He said when he went into the pen, the cows went to run out and the calves started to run back.  They knew it was feeding time.  But then the cows started hookin' at the calves and they turned around and run off.

Husband tried getting them separated again by himself but it wasn't working out.  So he let them be.  Gonna wait till we are both home at the same time and can sort them together.  Lil stinkers!  They are back on milk.  It's like crack, they can't get enough of it!

They Shall Be Mine!

I love babies.  But what's not to love, right?  Okay, I'm talking about animal babies here.  I enjoy having the calves at the house.  I go out every evening and sit at the gate with a bucket of cubes.  Slowly but surely gaining the trust of more and more.  It started with just one, now I'm up to at least four eating out of my hand.  I had to text the husband this evening because I got his favorite to come up today.  I was really surprised.  The husband was happy.  He said maybe if we can tame her down now, she'll be good once she gets older.  Her mother is a crazy, pain in the butt cow.

Not much else going on around our parts.  Loaded a handful of babies up yesterday and took them to the sale barn.  None I was too fond of so it didn't hurt my feelings much to see them go.  But the longer they are at the house, the harder it will be to part with them.

Besides that, I've been busy at the shelter.  It's going really well and it is so fulfilling.  I love working with the dogs.  And several have been adopted which makes my heart happy.  Now as I post the pictures on my site, the shelter is putting stars on their kennels saying they are a "star on the internet".  How cute is that!  And how cute is this puppy I played with on Saturday!!

Hope you all have a fabulous week.
