Bikini Challenge-Are You Freakin' Kiddin' Me?!

I'm a little peeved.  My plans have been derailed and I tend to be a very task oriented person.  I schedule things.  That's what I do.  Everything's suppose to fall into place.  I'm a control freak.  But a huge monkey wrench has been thrown into the equation.  I don't like it!

I tried running on Monday.  Only made it about 1 1/2 miles before my leg was hurting.  I moved to the bicycle and finished out my workout.  Talked to the husband about the situation and we decided I should go to a sports medicine doctor.  Had my appointment on Tuesday.  The doctor told me I messed up my lower calf muscle.  "Messed up", that's my official medical term.  He told me that I am NOT to run.  Gave me a band and stretching exercises.  Scheduled me to come back after I return from the training late April.

Then he says....IF I'm doing okay with my stretching, then he'll start strength training.  THEN after I build up the strength, he will gradually get me back into running.  GRADUALLY!  Really!

So here's my issue, I entered a 5K for this Saturday.  It's paid for.  I'm signed up.  I want to go!  Husband tells me to "turn out." (Rodeo slang)  I tell him I can do it.  I'll take all of this week off so on Saturday I should be able to do fine.  Then I won't run anymore.  He keeps reading the paperwork the doctor gave me, talking about making things worse, yada yada yada.  Keep in mind, this is the guy that NEVER, repeat, NEVER listened to me when he rode bulls.  I would advise him not to go because of injuries.  Did he pay any attention to me?  No Siree Bob!

I finally told him I am going but if it hurt, I would stop and walk.  He may let me slide with that.  The only other issue is I have another race at the end of April!  Gotta run there too.  But I will have a whole month off between this one and that one.  The doctor told me I could do the elliptical so I plan to keep my cardio up with it.

I'm really not a nut.  And I know y'all are all going to tell me to follow the doctor's orders (it's common sense, I know).  And I plan on it, after Saturday.

I'll make ya a promise.  I promise not to whine if I hurt myself more.  That's what I always told the husband when he didn't listen to me.  I don't want to hear it if you get hurt.  Cause I'm all sweet and lovin' like that.

Be careful, and I'll keep ya in my prayers! I'd also advise after you run, doing exactly what the doctor tells you........after all you paid the guy for his opinion....*ducking the punch you are throwing at me* :P

and ps.......we all know that boys are stupid that way!

You're right, we are going to tell you to follow Dr's orders. But we also "know" you so…run Saturday. Be careful. You don't want to do permanent damage and never be able to run agin. Play the end of April by ear. Don't pay for it until the last minute. Enjoy!

OMG thought I was the only crazy one out there. I ran on my stress fracture last fall and an inflammed tendon last spring. I totally get where you're coming from.

Stubborness doesn't by any chance run in your family or rub off from your husband does it???
Just kidding!
I would probably do the same if I were in your shoes. Just take it a little easier and hope you don't screw it up any worse.
Good Luck!

K - you have to decide what you can live with....(Good Luck on Saturday!) and a change of plans never hurts.. So you had an awww shucks day :( -- get well!

Well K you could really mess things up if you go ahead...what is more expensive...the fee, or the hospital.
Trust me...a screwed up leg is no fun and that would slow your progress down alot more than what you already have got. Now call your momma and ask her....LOL!!!

Okay so the sensible one in me of course says don't do it...Then the "real" me comes out and says do it with care! What about wrapping the calf to give it support?!

I earlier had said to Walk and don't Run, but after thinking about just having left that as a message I felt maybe that wasn't enough. Go - have a good day - but don't run the race. Volunteer at a water stop, etc. and cheer others on. Do it next year with good strong legs!

I understand how frustrating it is when you hurt yourself. During the winters I usually run stairs at the bball gym. I started this past November and about 2 weeks in I could hardly get out of bed in the mornings because my neck hurt so bad. Went the chiropractor and he said NO MORE STAIRS!!! I wanted to ask if he was going to pay for me to buy bigger sizes of jeans. But then TNT and I bought an elliptical in January and I LOVE that thing. I might even skip my 5 miles of bike riding each night during the summer.

Hope you get to feeling better and listen to the doctor!!! You don't want to do more damage!!

When I broke my ankle the last time, it was about weeks before a much anticipated horse vacation. When I went to the dr for a recheck, he took the cast off, xrayed & gave me the bad news. He wanted it on for another 3 weeks. I figured as such & had brought my stirrup with me & said to make the next cast skinny enough to fit in the stirrup. His cast tech had fun with that one! Never did work right though cuz the angle was off, but I didn't have to cancel the trip. Afterwards, however, my foot smelled of manure. Horse manure isn't bad unless its been ground in for DAYS. My family couldn't stand to be in the truck with me! So when we got home, I trusted my husband with the saw-zaa (I know that isn't how you spell it) and he cut the sucker off. I never told. Never went back to the doctor. I was healed. ;)

With that said, I do not advise you to run your race. No way, no how. You stay home and take care of your injury. What are you thinkin of, girl? (wink)
