A Bunch of Bull

Brahma1

That's what I feel like I've been dealing with today.  I sent in the adoption paperwork this morning for Chance.  Shocking, I know!  But the shelter is questioning us on numerous things.  I'm doubtful they will allow us to adopt him.  They contacted me this morning with some questions.  I responded back right before lunch.  Never heard anything else from them.

I have always been reluctant to try adopting from this specific shelter.  The application is 4 pages long.  They are very picky and I always figured they would turn us down.  I hate that they are so rigid because it doesn't help the animals needing homes.

I wanted to try for Chance's sake this one time.  So I'm waiting to hear what they decide.

I sure hope Chance can go to to live with you.....He looks very sweet. I hate that about shelters...why do they make it sooo hard for people to adopt these animals that just need a good loving family??

Hope it all works out for ya!
It's amazing at how picky some of these shelters are. Especially the ones that do put the animals down if they can't find homes. Alot of times it's not that they are unwanted animals, it's that the person wanting them is not good enough in the shelter's eyes. Where they get there standards I'm not sure but it's a shame because around here animals do get put down.

Silly buggers, they would rathewr he sit in the shelter, or be adopted into a town setting?

Well good heavens! Why in the world would they not want you to adopt, of all people??? I don't understand shelters at all if you want the truth........but I won't get into that here. I hope for the sake of the dog that you do hear from them!

If everyone except your hubby thinks he is mean- then maybe you can play that to your adbantage! I mean- If you are willing to give that 'fierce' dog a loving home and PAY for the priveledge- they's be stoopid not to let you!

If they are smart, you'll get your Chance. If they aren't, you may have to wait till they send him to the SPCA and then scoop him from them. Hang in there!

I had an ex who had wealthy parents who got turned down for an adoption b/c they had been a month late on a previous pet's vaccinations.
So, they went and paid $500 for a pure-bred dog.

I've never had a problem b/c I had always volunteered at the 2 places we adopted animals from. Maybe if hubby continues to volunteer there, he could mention that you guys put in an application to adopt Chance. Usually the fact that someone chose to volunteer with animals is a big leg up!

I've never seen a shelter like that. That's so annoying.
Good luck to you all. ♥

Gorgeous cattle. :)

OMG 4 pgs? that's kind of like adopting a kid... well not really but still! I hope it works out for both of you (chance and you guys!!) but why on earth would they turn you guys down! Seriously!!!

Got stewing on this overnight. MAybe it needs to be explained to them , that the fact you can and do vaccinate your own is a + in that you have the skills to do so and are more likely to have other excellent animal husbandry skills!
Instead of making the assumption that because you do it this way it is wrong. Sounds to me like the shelter needs an education

Good luck! When I adopted my aussie from a local shelter a few years ago, the main concern from the shelter was that he was going to live on a ranch! Really? That's a doggie heaven! Good luck with Chance!

agh thats stupid! I appreciate that shelters try not to allow anyone to adopt that might harm an animal, but COME ON!

You should give them your blog URL and let them see how your dogs are loved on! Those are some happy pups!

Shelter's have gone crazy. You have a dog you want to love and give a home and they are not jumping on it. Shame on them. I hope it works out. Sounds like Chance would be very happy...

Some of the so-called "rescues" around here are like that - multipage applications with ridiculous questions and a high fee (sometimes as much as $400). I'm surprised they don't want a blood sample too.

Darn city people! They have no idea sometimes!

I hope Chance finds a good home soon!

Coming in reaaaaaaaaaaaaaallly late on this one.

While I can totally understand a thorough screening of all applicants, 4 pages is excessive. Extremely excessive.

One home visit should have made it obvious whatever animal coming into your home would be there for the duration.
