Photography Woes

Can you explain to me why people are turds?  Really? Can ya?  Let me explain my rant.

My photography domain recently expired.  Well, right as I was coming to SC, it expired.  I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do with my site, whether I would leave it as a blog or make it an actual website.  Stupid me didn't even imagine someone else BUYING my domain name.

Can you believe that?  I went to check on it and found out that it was taken.  So now when you go to crazymphotography.com, it's a generic photography search site.  UGH, I was soooooo mad!  It just infuriates me.  I know the person behind it is just out for money.  But I don't play those games.  Even though all my stuff is printed with that web address.  I will NOT allow them to take advantage of me.

So it looks like I will be changing my web address to crazymphotography.net.  I'm gonna wait till I get back home to deal with it all.  I'll have to buy new business cards.  And take care of all my other crap that has it printed on it.  What a pain!

On a brighter note, I sold almost three times as much stuff at the craft gallery last month after my move to the bigger space.  I'm real excited.  I hope it keeps up.  Fingers crossed.

Plus, while I've been gone, the husband has been trying to get me photography gigs.  He called the other night to tell me that a stock contractor had put out a request for recommendations on a photographer for a bull futurity on a rodeo web board.  The first response listed... ME!  Can you believe it!  So the husband contacted the contractor.  They said they thought a photographer had been found for the event but would like me to come to the ranch and take pictures of their cattle if I was interested.  How cool is that!

And guess what!!!!  Only 5 days till I get to go home!!!  I can't wait.

I received this from the hubby today.

The husband said Diesel was being so good.  According to the husband, he sat there begging to have his picture taken for momma.  I miss my fam.

I would be just as mad! There is no need for people to be like that. Good for you for standing up for yourself!

Congrats on selling more stuff, that is always exciting! Best of luck to you.

I'll bet you do miss your family! Good for you for not caving in to this idiot! I know exactly what you mean. The same thing happend with the url www.kindergoats.com The lady who built the Kinder goat website got "let go" because she was a really crappy webpage builder. She immediately bought up the domain name and now wants 400 bucks for it. She's saying how "in demand" it is. Give me a break, nobody but the Kinder Goat Association is even interested and we aren't about to pay that for it! Some people are just total jerkwads!!

Congrats on selling the stuff and getting the gig! That's awesome!

Success inspite of the bad things, that is what makes you keep on trying.

A big sale, a sweet hubby, a dog who misses you and a possible photo opp, life is good!

That's a common "space holder" type page that comes up when domain names expire.

Have you tried going through the renew process through your registrar? I am betting that you can still renew your name... they don't get snatched up very quickly, usually, and registrars usually keep the registration on them even if you don't renew it, so typically if someone else wanted to buy it they'd have to go through an aftermarket to get it. :)

5 more days? You sure are gone long from home- and not even on vacation! That's so cool that you get to do the photography on the futurity; nothing like making money doing something you love.

That sucks about the domain name. Bunch of vultures out there...glad to hear the craft booth is doing well. I'm considering doing something similar but I'm finding there's not enough hours in the day or days in the week. Congrats on the photo gigs! And how could you resist a face like Diesel's????

Would agree with Kaylin - I think thats a placeholder. Call your registrar & you should be good to go. Mine went to that when I was changing webhosts... Good luck!

Your hubby is sweet for sending you pics of your pooch.

Thanks for all the info. I did some research and found that my domain was bought by a domain reseller to emon.com. I would have to bid on it to gain it back. I'm not paying what they want for it. So I will be changing my domain address.

Oh, that happened to my Sister. Someone bought up every version of their farm business name. Some people.....

Well at least you have good news about the craft booth, and the photography.

VULTURES! You did the right thing. When I started my blog I bought my domain name on the same day. Still don't know if I'll use it for my own website but it's mine, danggit.

Hang in there! Almost home!
Don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff! It all works out in the end, and you'll be fine no matter which domain name you've got!

That is interesting. This explains why in the past, I have gone to websites and have found a weird advertising type site and was so confused. Those people must have let theirs expire or changed it and then it was bought up. Is this because they hope to rack up business by those of us looking for the original site?
Sorry that happened, it must be a hassle to deal with!
Glad your work is selling better though!! It's a lot of work getting a place up and running. And remember it takes a while to build a clientele and a repeat customer base!

thanks... that's a reminder to all of us to purchase our domain name renewals early.

Sorry for all the crap it caused you though. What a pain.
