I'm Always the Odd Ball

Training is going well.  I'm black, blue and sore all over.  Sounds like it's going well, huh!  I enjoy going to training.  I always get to meet interesting people from all over the nation.  But it always makes me feel kinda like an odd ball.  You ever experience that?  The people are great but they have no concept of my "real" life outside of work.  I mention I live on a small ranch and raise buckin' bulls, I get REALLY surprised looks.  And it wouldn't be the buckin' bull part.  Just that I have cattle is so intriguing to people.  Are there just not many country people anymore?

Then there's the "hey, let's go out and have some drinks."  This is another situation where I stick out like a sore thumb.  I don't mind hanging out with new people.  But the only thing I have in common with them is work.  And I am not a night owl.  I like to go to bed early.  Plus, I'd rather be hanging out with the husband if truth be told.  So I'm not good company.  Oh, and I don't drink.  It's not like I can't be around people drinking or anything, but that just doesn't seem like a good time to me.  Do I sound like a prude?  I do, huh!  My idea of fun is playing with the dogs or watching calves play or taking photographs.  Really, I'm an introvert.  It wears me out to hang out with a large group.  Usually, the husband is the social one and I can sit quietly.

Here is where I've spent every evening after training...

It may seem unsocial to some.  I hang out in my room, talkin' to the husband on the phone and cruisin' the internet.  The last two evenings, I've walked to local restaraunts and ate supper by myself.

But you know what, I may be the odd ball but I don't know anyone else who's spouse has sent them a cute note like this...(well, couldn't get the picture of the note to upload so here's what it said.)

"Hey, Hope all is well.  The dogs send their love.  Hugs, kisses and slobbers.  I love ya and miss ya tons!"

I wouldn't change my "real" life for anything!

I am much the same way, and always have been. When "home" is really a home...there is no place better.

I'm an odd ball, too. I love dinners out when traveling because I get to eat all kinds of food I don't normally eat (or want to spend the $$ on) but after that, the luxury of traveling is my hotel room, my laptop and a tv to myself. Peace & quiet.

My favorite horse story to non-country people was describing when we had to put a horse down. When I got to the part "we walked her to the hole..." they about fell off their chairs...

A kindred spirit. I don't have cattle, but I am a homebody and don't mind a drink now and then, but it's "A" drink "NOW AND THEN."
Hubby is my best friend.

Oh... that sounded bad. It isn't a "favorite story" having to put a horse down... it is a favorite story for me to retell the looks on their faces hearing that story....

I would be spending my nights the same way. Am I odd? Maybe but what do I care. I'm happy!
Such a sweet note from hubby and the kids.

I think it is so awesome that you can be around these "city" folk. Just think of all the great things you can tell them. I explained embryo transfer to my hairdresser today and she thought it was fasinating.

Aww thats so cute and true. I don't fit into the city crowd either. I get along with just about everyone in my classes in the city but I wouldn't likely hang out with any of them outside of class.
By the way theres a nice open mouth Indigo pic for ya on my blog. Haven't posted any of those in a wile. Shes always got her gums a flappin.

Hey Babe,
I got home tonight and all the kids gave me lots of hugs and kisses even miss kitty. They asked where you were and when your coming home. I gave them hugs for ya and told them you would be home soon. They've been on there best behavior for me, you must have given them a good talking to before you left. We love ya and miss ya like crazy. Be careful and have a good day.
Love ya tons, the hubby and kids

It sounds like we have some things in common all these bloggers... silly -- I like to get out too but it is almost always hubby and I -- we don't have a group we hang out with -- just each other... I would be doing pretty much the same thing you are! Have a good friday! Oh and I love the note!

I love it that your hubby follows your blog! Mine dosen't even know how to turn the computer on!
It sounds like you have great wisdom at a young age- It took me years to figure out that my hubby was my best friend! I do enjoy his company now more than ever. But if I were in that group you are with now, you and I could have fun- I love to go and find all the 'western' stores! I bet I could entice you to do that!

Gosh, look at all of us!! We're all so much alike!
My idea of a late night is 9 o'clock or so, and now that I'm on holidays, I've been hittin' the hay by 8!!
Give me the 'real' life any day!!

Kit, I am like you, very introverted! I would rather be with my hubby than in a big group of people! I always feel like the odd ball. My hubby is my best friend and we are always together. Since moving back to New York, my friends are few and I would rather be at home with the horses, dogs, cats, cows and the kids and hubby than any where else! We do drink but we would rather do it at home than in a bar anywhere! So don't feel like you are alone.

That note is so sweet!!! I'm a homebody like you. My days of staying out late and drinking are long gone and are not very appealing. And I'm usually in bed before 10 PM. Guess we should start an Oddball group...

Ah girl we are such kindred spirits! We are in bed every night by 8:30, up very early in the morning. A good time to us is spending the day cleaning brush, building fence, haulin' scrap, and playing with our critters, followed by a hot shower, a meal on the grill, and a soft warm bed! If you are an odd ball, then me too and I'm proud of it. I love to be by myself or just with The Paintiff or The Youngun and I LOVE to eat by myself, shop by myself, pretty much just be alone! LOL Not a thing wrong with it!!

When I went back east for a wedding a few years ago - everytime someone asked me what I did for a living, I'd tell them, "We own a farm/cattle ranch." Then I'd get blank stare and "Yeah, but what you do for a living?" Uhhh? That IS what I do?

Then they'd just tell me all about how they couldn't possibly work with their spouse all day, they'd go crazy. Since when did wanting to hang out with your husband become odd? :)

I don't think it's odd at all! Yeah I stick out like a sore thumb too, all my friends have been city kids whether my small town of 12,000 where I grew up or when I went to college... no one knows about Cutting horses (not even some horse people) and showing sheep (FFA project) yeah that was foreign to them too. Most of them while I was out helping haul hay or something were enjoying the inside life... I stick out too and I'd rather make sure that everyone is taken care of at home first (although sometimes it is nice to go out) and making plans, yeah that's not easy either!

I would be the same way....I don't like going out without my hubby or family...and if we were seperated I would be miserable! Stop over for a visit soon. :)

I've always been an oddball.....nothing wrong with us oddballs. I'd be miserable being away from home like you're doing....MISERABLE!

What a sweet husband! I'm the same way, I'd rather just chill by myself than go out for drinks. I know it's hard to be away from home too :)

Wow I couldn't of read this post at a better time. It's Sat. night I'm sitting at home, hubby is out playing a gig (part-time musician). Just when I think I'm the freak, the unsocial turd I read this and other cool blog friends that are the same. I would rather be hanging with the critters, drinking a little vino (maybe) or not. I never want that crowd thing. It was just nice to know I'm an oddball too and I'll stop beating myself up for it.

You sound normal to me. I'm a bit of a loner, and husband, dogs and horses are usually enough for me. And I hate going to bars.
