The Glory Days

Several of y'all asked about the husband's rodeo days.  You ask, I shall provide!  He started rodeoin' at a young age.  Continued throughout high school, competing in bullriding and bareback.  He eventually decided to drop the horses and focus on the bulls.

Here's a high school pic.  He really kicked butt in high school rodeo.  He came to college on a rodeo scholarship.  (Another tidbit, the husband was an awesome wrestler in high school.  He had to choose either wrestling or rodeo.  Glad he chose rodeo otherwise we would have never met!)

The husband rode bulls throughout his college years, the many, many college years. :)  He's wasn't very studious.  During and after college, he rode in PRCA and PBR events.

We drove many miles, sleepin' in his ford ranger, going from one rodeo to the next.  I wouldn't change that time for anything.

But his body just couldn't take all the jerkin', splattin' and runnin' over.  He had three shoulder surgeries, many broken bones and various other stuff that comes with ridin' bulls.  His body really took a toll and he eventually retired about 5 years ago.  He just couldn't be competitive when his shoulder wouldn't stay in during a ride.

So now we raise our stock and get an adrenaline rush watching them buck.  I think I still get as nervous watching the bulls buck as I did watching the husband!

Thanks for sharing ! We laugh here cause I had a huge crush on Cody Schneider when I was young. Always liked the bull riders. Years met Martin and apparently he rode bulls for a bit in college. So I guess I kinda got a bull rider after all. I missed all his rodeos ,but I 'll take what I got

That is so cool to see him in action! I think it would be a great rush to watch the bulls. I have been to quite a few rodeos but never a pro rodeo. I dream of going to cheyenne, and calgary. Maybe some day. We shall see. You have a good week.

Very interesting! Loved watching the rodeos every August at the Clackamas County Fair where I grew up in Oregon. My favorite was always the last event--bull riding! That's one awesome pic of your hubby on that stretched out black Brahma! :-)

Wow - those are some great pictures... and noone could ever believe what a toll that takes to the body! You may enjoy the story about Cowboy Armstrong (one of the 6 pack) -- http://livingitupoutwest.blogspot.com/2009/06/diamond-bar-up.html

His widow was running a bed and breakfast - lots of bucking history!

Raising stock is a lot safer - however accidents can happen doing any job. Love his rodeo pictures. That is one exciting sport!

Loved the Silver state picture looked like he was working real hard.

We had a little friend that took up bull riding as a freshman in high school during the summer we would help him learn to ride better......bareback and jumping over barrels.....now he is 28 and we are ready for him to retire. You know how they are he'll probably be like another friend who finally retired at 61
