I Sure Hope Tomorrow is Better...

Man, we've had some bad luck the last couple days.  It started yesterday while we were working cattle.  We took Mud, a young bull, to tip his horns.  You may remember him from a few posts back.  He was helping Mojo  in the fight with Tadpole.  Anyhow, we ran him in the squeeze chute to tip his horns.  He got down in the chute.  Nothing major but something happened to his back end and he couldn't stand up.  He scrambled a little to get out but never could get his back feet under him.  We let him sit while we finished everything else.  Still nothing.  Left him in the pen overnight and checked on him today.  Still nothing.  He's on his way to the packers.

We had nominated him for a competition in 2011.  Been paying his entry over this year.  Now we have one less bill to pay.

Then the husband went out to feed this morning.  One of our heifers had a calf.  It was dead.  The husband said it was early but the calf was fully developed.  A good looking bull calf.  Don't know what happened with it.  The momma knew something was wrong cause she didn't mind the husband messin' with the baby.  I told the husband nature has a way of taking care of things, something must have been wrong with it.  But it's still hard to swallow when you just had to put another one down.

I hate when we have a run of bad luck.  I hold my breath wondering what's gonna happen next.  You know they say it comes in threes.  The husband called me on his way to work, said a truck passed him and a rock flew up and cracked his windshield.  I'm hoping that's the third.

Then I looked over at my daily scripture calendar and it read,

"Consider it pure joy...whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  James 1:2, 3."

Great words of scripture! Losing any critter is hard.

It is difficult to comprehend trials as joy! Maybe later it will all make sense - having livestock or animals of any kind can be a test... Hope the rest of your week goes better!

There is a always reason things happen, but it's usually not obvious to us mere mortals. Sorry about Mud, it's really tough when it's one you had high hopes for.

((hugs)) I know what you mean. We are more alike every day. I needed to read that quote. Thanks. Oh Lordy.. I just thought of something? If we were neighbors...would bad luck come in sixes? Yikes! Love you

Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck. I've had some myself - in a big way - and it's never fun... Hope the joyful times come back soon.

A big old AMEN country sis. This Ozarks farm chick know too well how bad luck can knock the props right from under ya. It's all part to the good life. Gold is fired to remove the impurities to be stronger. Just sayin!

From the hills and hollers of the Missouri Ponderosa, ya'll have a wonderfully blessed day!

Glad to hear that you put your Faith where it belongs, just like we do. God knows what He's doing, even if we have no stinkin' clue! Hang in there and remember to give it all to Him! God Bless!

You sure know where to look for direction and answers but still a tough day with all that. So sorry. Sometimes it does seem bad things come in threes but take heart - good things come in much higher numbers. :)

Awww... And I liked poor ol' Mud! I'm sorry to hear that you've had such a run of bad luck lately, but that scripture verse was perfect for you!
Even though things may go wrong, God never fails us!

I'm hoping that the windshield was the end of the bad luck around your place!!

I think that is the worst part of the cow business. You wait so long for that little guy to get here, and then sometimes it just doesn't work out for one reason or another. I found your blog off the South Dakota Cowgirl's blog. Definitely will be following!
