But as you know, life happens and priorities change. My running came to a stop. My hobby went to the wayside. I kept saying I would get back to it but never did. I finally decided to sign up and pay for a race, that way I would have to go. I picked the very first race I ever ran to start over again.
We got up bright an early this morning and drove over 2 hours in the rain. It was overcast and cool. Here's the starting line picture. I look all happy. But in my head, I was saying, "Remember this face cause I'm gonna die!" I hadn't ran in over a month.
The course had changed since the last time I ran. They added more HILLS! What were they thinkin'!! No one on the race committee cleared this with me. Lord have mercy, I was dying!

Here I am coming in at the finish line. Not such a happy face anymore. Now I'm thinkin' "Please don't throw up, please don't throw up!"
I am so out of shape. But I did place 4th in my age division, just out of the medals DANG IT! The husband was proud of me. He said he misses me racing. I miss it too. So I'm gonna try to prioritize better from now on and get to running. Plus it will help me fit back into my clothes. That's always a plus.

Now I just hope I can get out of bed in the morning.

Congrats on getting back to it. If you could see me try to run, which I have been trying to do lately, you would fall out laughing
The hardest part is over with --- just doing it! Now good luck keeping it up in your routine... Getting out of bed may be tough but just think you'll feel great a few hours later!
Congrats! You did great, and you look great!!!
Girl you are my new personal hero! Running! Ah- if God had wanted this old girl to run, she wouldn't have invented horses!
I am praying that you can get up and move tomorrow- i know I wouldn't be able to!
Wow - congratulations! What a good finish - and more to come! You're an inspiration for me to get of my fat ass! I was doing pretty good at loosing a few lbs, but now think I better get back on the ball too! thanks,
You did great! Hope you are OK in the morning ! Wow 5K I would be a road pizza!
Rock On Sista! You did it, everyone looks like crap at the end of a race. We need to chat, I too use to run all the time. My first race was in Austin. I had to give it up last year because of my neck surgery. Well I'm slowly getting back into it. So let's set some goals!
You go girl! Keep up the good work!
I LOVE to run. And did a lot of races when I was home for a year between ENMU and TSU. And I ran a lot in college. I ran a lot until I got here. There isn't a whole lot of places to run where you don't have to worry about running over a rattlesnake or being chased by a coyote (true story- I even blogged about it). So now I sit on my mtn. bike which is parked on a wind-trainer and I pedal. I figure when I am back in TX for the winter I can run again. It would help me lose 10lbs!

Congratulations! I only run if they are callin' me for supper or a bear is hot on my tail.
I say you looked pretty good at the finish.
JEALOUS! I just started the 'Couch to 5K' program. Not because I like running but to get in shape (read lose weight). I'm so encouraged that you ran after 2 years, FINISHED and ran well! Way to go! Keep it up. With the hubby's encouragement I'm sure you will.
Congratulations! You look all tuckered out in the last pic.
HOORAY for you! I don't really like to run but I do it anyway. The Hunter runs about 16+ miles a week. (Yeah, he's sick in the head) Good job to bad you don't live closer. We could be runnin buddies.
Good for you I would be laying on the ground at the 0.000.01km mark.Is that even a number, I think you get my drift.
I would've been on a stretcher!! Good job on your first 5k back... and getting fourth place!!
I'm a little winded just reading this post! Congratulations. I should run. I should do alot of things! Glad you finished and you look fantastic!
You go girl. You are a inspiration.
Jen

You go, girl! They would have had to scrape me off the pavement.
OH my gosh!! I cannot believe you ran that without running within the past month!! You are crazy...or really cool, unlike me LOL!! Great job!! I hope you didn't hurt to bad! I have always wanted to do running...I'm not thinking my back could handle it though :(
Congratulations!! Something we all need to do and you did it! Now let not wait another two years for another run! Maybe a few practice miles are called for before entering the next race also??
From a want-to-be runner, GREAT JOB!
