How Long Can I Hold My Breath?

I met the husband at the end of our drive this evening. He was taking the tractor back to the neighbor as I was pulling in. He wanted to put the dogs in the back of the truck. I rolled down my window to talk to him and noticed a smell.

You remember the neighbor across the road...the one with the mountainous piles of chicken poo? How could you forget that right? Well, he was scattering the poo over his field, right across from our house. About the time I saw him, the husband yells "Roll up your window! Fast!!"

I bring the girls home and make my way out of the truck. I tightly squeeze my lips together and hold my breath as I run to the door. Just our luck the wind is blowing from the South. Guess which direction the field is?! Yep, to the south of us. Do you know what it's like to be bombarded by chicken poo dust? It's not pleasant.

So just for you, I went out on my front porch and took pictures of the chicken poo spreader and dust.

I think I'll go take a shower now...

When the hubby worked for the farmer out west, feeder cattle, that farmer also had a hog house, and every time he came home from hauling hog manure, I sure new it and told him not to even step in the house, to take his cloths off out side!!! Not the same thing as chicken poo, but it sure doesn't smell any less!! You could tell when they were spreading it on the fields.

so that is why the new neighbor across the street from the farm does not notice the funk of horse shit when it gets rained on--he is used to chicken and hog shit.

Oh the sweet smells of the country!! YUM!! LOL!! I think I would have run in to take a shower too!! Why can't he use horse poop? That must smell better than chicken poop.

Does it smell kind of like skunk?

EEWW Though I think chicken poo dust may be nicer than eating horse poopie dust. Like the horse farts and you taste it. Apparently according to my friend Dave, it's bitter.

That's terrible! I can't imagine the guy even wanting to do that. Oh, but I see he has a big enclosed cab on his tractor-guess it doesn't bother him-just all the neighbors!
I have chickens and I dread cleaning the coop. I would rather smell any poo as chicken poo!
It's really a good thing that it's hot there. It probably makes the smell worse, but can you imagine if it were cooler and you had your windows open and came home to all that poo dust inside your house!
