The Hop-a-long Wife

I went to my doctor's appointment Friday for the "needling".  The husband couldn't get out of work so I went alone.  It's never good when the doctor walks in, looks around the room, even behind the door and says, "You didn't bring any support?"  Uh, no.

So I lay on my tummy and they get my leg all prepped.  They rub lidocaine  from my heel up to mid-calf.  Guess that's suppose to help with the initial injection.  Then they use an ultrasound machine to pin point the tendon.  It gets fun from that point on.  The doctor inserts a needle with deadenin' stuff directly into the tendon.  That  was the worst part.  Once he gets the tendon numb, he starts poking the needle into it.

After about 20 minutes or so, it's all over.  He said he stuck the tendon over 100 times!  Since the tendon has intentionally broke down, the risk of rupture is much higher so he put me in a walking boot for two weeks!  I didn't know about this part.

As the guy was fittin' it on me, I advised him that it was not going to be very conducive to feeding bulls that evening.  So he gave me the cleaning instructions!

I called the husband to let him know I lived thru the procedure and told him about the boot.  His first reaction, "What!  Did you tell them we had to work cattle this week!"  Ahhh, yes, I knew he would be upset about his only ranch hand being handicapped.  Just so happens that this next week we both took vacation to work around here.  Looks like I'm gonna be washin' this thing a lot!

Bad timing! But if it heals you up it's worth it. I suggest you tape a good strong plastic bag over it when you have to go in the corrals.

Ewwwww cowpooboot!
Put a garbage bag over it for sure. One of those industrial ones.

The plastic bag is a great idea!

Maybe you can fit in some down time, now that you have an excuse...never mind, I know ranching!

Heal quickly.

Ahhh! Glad you lived through it! And I've got one of those husbands as well. When we work together I seriously need a football helmet and a padded suit. I have to stay on my toes to get outta his way cause needless to say when he's on a mission the last thing he is worried about is dropping something on me, or beanin' me in the head with a board! LOL! Have fun next week havin' all that time together!

I had to laugh at your husband's comment. That's such a guy thing. Wade would say the same thing. Lol, I always have fun explaining to the docs what goes on around here. I had my heart checked out after my brother had an aortic aneurysm and doc said it's not likely to happen to me unless I take a hard hit to the chest. I looked him in the eye and said "That's about once a week at my house". Sometimes they just don't understand what has to get done!!
Hope it gets better soon though. That looks like a pain. Bet driving is a bunch of fun too.

Indispensable and Irreplaceable. Now would be a good time to hold out for bigger wages, more than 3 meals a day and half the bed.

I agree with CCC!
Check the local medical supply stores- they have special bags to put on those things to keep them from getting wet and icky! Might be just the ticket for you!

The bag was and is a very good idea, less cleaning (hopefully, but if you are like me,NOT) I am the same, the hubby and I are partners and we do all the work around here together if we can, but we do get help from the son and his nephew, so I do get to go and do inside stuff when needed. Take care of that foot though!

2 weeks isn't bad. My husband spent 5 weeks in a boot. Every time we went through the airport someone was laughing at him. We went over seas at that time too. We walked all around Paris and climbed the stairs at the Effel tower. I recommend the elevator even if you are completely healthy.

What a boot!
And what a man... lol!

I say go with bread bags - or even heavy duty garbage bags. You won't regret it, that's for sure!
