A Few Other Minor Jobs

In between all the fence building and pen redesign, we managed to finish a few other tasks around the place.

The husband did a little home repair...

Yes, that's duct tape on our back door.  It fixes everything, right?

We took a uber heavy gate off our entrance.  We've complained about it every since we moved here (going on 4 years!) and finally cut it off and replaced it.  Hubby had to blow holes in the pipe for the hinges.

I love this gate so much!  It's the one that I closed the night Stubby got out.

Then we noticed this pool of water.  Not good since it hadn't rained!

That resulted in the Husband digging up the water line to find the leak.  He was not a happy camper.  We live with black dirt.  When it's wet, it is a sticky, gummy mess.  When it's dry, it's hard as a rock.  He says we will NEVER live where there is black dirt again.

And last but not least, we put another fly rub up here at the house.

Why does it seem like the Husband was doing all the work in these pictures?  I promise I assisted!

I will be posting the winner of the caption giveaway soon.  I wanted to wait for the Husband to get home (he's been out of town) so he can help me choose.    Stay tuned!!

Ok...so I was raised in "the OC" and am just now trying to learn all this homestead stuff (while renting) and I have to ask...what the heck is a fly rub and is that gasoline he's pouring?

We have horses and cows but I have never heard of Fly Rub is??? Is it like Fly Spray or those stupid Fly Bags? Is it homemade? Does it work good? :-)

A rancher's work is never done!

They must be usin' the fly rubs huh? And I myself like the Georgia Chrome on the back door! Whatever works, I say!

Can't wait to see the caption winner!

I have to tell you, I am sitting here reading your post with my 3 year old on my lap {playing ponies} and she looks up to see the photo of your hubby working on the fence and she asks, "Is that Daddy?" I guess my life and yours are similar in many respects :)

Any rancher knows that duct tape can fix almost anything! I wouldn't leave home with horses without it! Protects a hoof if you loose a shoe, can fix broken tack, and more....

We know --- a woman's work is never done! Wouldn't we be shocked if the Hubbys would stop everything pick up the camera and take a picture of us women working -- I'm thinking I would probably have something to say :) Well it looks like you had not only a staycation but a workcation....

I'll give you my clay dirt anytime for that lovely black stuff! Talk about sticky and hard! (that didn't sound right) Ranch or farm work is never done! We never go anywhere without the duct tape, I think I still have a few rolls around ;)

Well since he's so good at fixing leaks in water lines, would the Husband like to come fix not 1 but 2 for me? We have rocky ground, not black dirt :)

I have duct tape all over the kitchen of the farm house we are working on, until such time as the kitchen work merits my hubby's time...
I always thought black dirt was good dirt. ;)
And I, too, wonder about the fly rub. As we will hopefully have a cow or two, I am trying to learn all I can. :)
We put a gate like that on our retirement property last year. Wish hubby had had his torch with him. We had to use a drill! Used pipe stem on our gate, is that what you used, too?
Hope you both have a great weekend! ♥

Y'all have been busy! I don't envy the hubby having to dig that up. That SUCKS!
Nice gate though :)

It never ends does it? I don't envy the man having to deal with all that gunk in the mudhole that's for sure.
