An Update

I want to say thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.  This is a stressful situation and the support y'all have shown us is so meaningful.  We very much appreciate it.

So, here's what I know now.  DPS never contacted us yesterday or this morning.  The husband has been worryin' himself sick about the whole situation.  He finally called the DPS office that covers the area by the lease.  He spoke with the Trooper that worked the wreck and wanted to make sure they had everything they needed from us.  From what I gathered from the husband, Mr. Trooper said he had received our information from the Sheriff's office.  He hadn't called because he didn't need anything further from us.  Really??  Mr. Trooper stated he was just putting our info in his report, which would be available for us in 10 days.  Okay...

The husband inquired on the people that hit Bully.  Apparently, it was just a driver.  Mr. Trooper stated he was NOT injured.  He believed he had them transport him away from the scene in order to not be there when  DPS arrived.  Apparently, the driver didn't have insurance.  It sounded very fishy.  I don't know what all was up with the driver but sure makes me wonder.

Anyhow, he didn't mention one thing about a fine or a citation.  Husband called me after he spoke with Mr. Trooper.  Asked what I thought.  He was still worryin' about gettin' a citation in the mail or something.  I told him I thought the Trooper would have told him right then if they were going to fine us.  He would have made arrangements to meet the Husband to get it.  To me, it sounded like they were more peeved at the driver and his actions than our bull.

So I guess we'll wait and see.  I'm gonna get the incident report when it's available to see exactly what they said happened.  But for now, I believe the sun is peaking out from the clouds.

Got the longhorn pictures the other day, had them framed and gave them to my friend. Pictures are fantastic! They are now hanging in the office of JD Steel in Palmer, Alaska. I see a longhorn road trip in somebody's future.

People used to run through our fence in the middle of the night and back out and leave and then someone else would see all the cows out and come knocking on our door to tell us they were out. after moving them to another field if we could not find the down fence it was time to get up and start milking. people are so careless of stupid when it comes to farmers and animals.

We had something similar. A horse got loose and got hit. The horse died upon impact, the driver did not have license or insurance. The worst part was it was the 3rd time he had been caught without his license.

So sorry about Bully! For anyone else out there with livestock, please check your insurance coverage. Most homeowners will not cover livestock related accidents.

Really sorry to hear about Bully. It's a real shame and I'm sure it's been hard you two. Glad to hear you have insurance...hope it covers you in this.

But, it sounds a lil' bit fishy...it'll be interesting to read the report.

Up here, we still have "open range" law where the driver is responsible to NOT hit livestock in the road...if they do, they pay the rancher for their loss of property.

Wow!
How horrible that this all happened. Glad to hear that no one was hurt but it's sad that your bull was killed. I'll be waiting to hear what you find out in that report.

Gttyup said what I was going to say. My UNcle hit a BUll at mignight and was required to pay THE RANCHER for loss of the bull. Crazy!
Totaled my uncles Motorhome and he still had to pay for the Moo Cow!

Glad the guy wasn't hurt so you don't have that to deal with. Sounds like maybe they were covering for him not having insurance???? Will continue to pray about it! :)

Unfortunately, Texas allows each county to decide whether it is open range. The majority are not including the ones around here. But they only really worry about larger roads like state highways. Of course, this was a state highway in our situation. We were told that we could file a claim for the price of the bull on the driver's insurance. Which prior to learning about the driver, we decided we didn't really want to do that.

Interesting about the driver, perhaps he was impaired? Although I'm glad he didn't get injured,it's too bad Bully had to suffer for him. But it sounds like you won't be in trouble over this, which is a big relief!

The photo fits! I hope every thing is working out.

Aside from this law stuff, how are you? I know how special Bully was.

OH wow...I really am glad to hear that things are sounding a bit better. Not to discount the loss of your bull! The picture is so fitting and beautiful!

So many thoughts there, yeah. Unlicensed, uninsured driver. Possibly illegally in the country.
Will the Trooper's report say specifically that the driver was not injured, and if not, is he willing to put that in writing for your husband?
I would definitely want all the information on the driver included officially somehow. Just to protect yourselves later.

But this seems to all be really great news for you, other than the loss of Bully, for which I am really sorry that happened.

Beautiful sunrise. :)

Still praying for ya..hoping things work out totally for ya! You keep on it. I know you are helpin' the hubby to quit fretin' so ....life is full of challenges. That's how God teaches us to grow.

I sure hope it all works out great in the end. Sorry you lost the bull though.

Oh no!! I am so sorry. But I don't think you can be fined. I wouldn't worry about it. Come on...who..is going to hit a HUGE bull and not see it. It's not like a bull is going to dart out super fast in front of a vehicle. They aren't as agile as deer! The driver was probably drunk or something. I am so sorry for your loss.

So sorry about Bully. I had a horse get out on a road, a black horse in the dead of night. Well she was hit by a motorist and had to be put down at the scene. I was worried about the car operators, and gave my info etc. The police told me that I would not be cited, that the driver would be cited! I called him and asked if he was ok. He was, and he apologized for hitting my horse!
Sometimes these things work out.

Umm! Fishy alright! Did you see a body? (Bully's). Was there blood on the road where they stated it happened? Have you seen and/or taken pictures of the vehicle that hit Bully? Were there witness's? Did you talk to them?

Should never accept things at face value anymore. People LIE like crazy and unless you get a "trooper" that is good at catching liars, they will believe their story.

Maybe someone was out for a steak dinner? I am so very sorry.

Sorry, I have to PROVE 'them' innocent! LOL
