The morning started out loading up the boys. We took Stubby and the two year olds to Stephenville. It was time to see if we were going to keep 'em or sell 'em.
Can you tell we haven't loaded anything in awhile? The load alley was a little grown up!
While we were at the arena, Rent-a-husband was schoolin' on some young bulls. I took a video of it so you could see how we run bulls thru the chute to get them used to it.
You get them used to loading, puttin' a rope around them, rattlin' the gates, etc. This guy did really well. Didn't seem to bother him one bit. I took the audio out cause I didn't think you'd want to listen to the Husband and Rent-a-Husband gab.

These guys kept giving me the eye. The arena was in their pen. Luckily, they stayed in the far corner.
And there was this lil guy...
He was such a good boy. He came right up to me and sat down, wanting to be pet. The Husband said, "Of course he would go directly to you!" I found out he was a stray. Someone had to be missin' him. He was neutered and so well behaved. Listened to commands and didn't get in the way no matter how badly he wanted to get the bulls.
So at the end of the day, we may have sold Eyebrows and Stubby. I know the business involves selling the bulls but if Stubby goes, I'm really gonna be sad. Of all our cattle, I'm most attached to him. He's my boy and it will be hard not having him around.
Here was his trip with a rider:
Unfortunately, Tadpole didn't buck good enough to keep. The Husband asked if I would let him drop him off at the sale barn. Of course, we can't feed something just because he's my pet. So on our way home from Stephenville, we stopped in Meridian and dropped him off. He should have been sold yesterday.
All in all, it was a bittersweet day.

I just sold all my goats but two and all my chickens tonight. Bittersweet is right, but it feels good too. Some things are just hard! Hugs to ya girl!
Love the bulls! We only have two Holstein bulls on our dairy ranch in CA and I am totally terrified of them:)
Interesting business - the bucking behind the bucking. Yes having livestock, horses and such - can be a tough business at decision time... :)
Stubby did good! How much is a bull like Stubby worth if you don't mind me asking? My cousins used to be big stock contractors up here in Canada and they took several to the NFR every year but I never really knew how much the animals were worth.
That is such an interesting business. I live in the same area as one stock contracter, another stock contracter who used to live here and moved, and the Calgary Stampede ranch who raise all bucking stock. Obviouly lots of grass here.
Funny how we can get so attached to bulls. I even have my favorites here and they aren't even ours.

I have those bittersweet moments here too....
Hope you are doing well...I am having a heck of time keeping up with everyone and posting myself!
Just wonderin who rides the young bulls?
Awww... It would be so hard to let favorites go, but I guess it's gotta be done sometimes. It still doesn't feel fair though, does it?
I guess you won't be giving them extra kisses or anything though.... would you? ;)
It is hard to let them go ,I find there are foals I raise that just get to my heart , but as someone said to me , they do us more good out there making a name for themselves than they do at our homes
((Hug)) Sorry my sista. It is hard to let some of our babies go. But that just leaves a spot for another cute baby. You do have some of the cutest calves I have seen. Love you two too.;)
Thanks everyone.
Lil Mama-We don't use riders until they are three years old. Then we use whatever bullrider is around that will get on.
You need to call me next time you are sporting in Stephenville!!!
Man, it sucks when you have to sell your pets. When I lived on the cattle ranch, I bottle fed a steer, and he stayed for life! LOL
Yeah I think I'd be like you, get attached and it'd be difficult to sell them. But in the end, it is a business. I like the alley shoot too btw. That's how my grandpa's looks :)
I sometimes (not often) hate to see a certain bull leave the place but it's a business after all and that's what happens. I have a worse time with horses that we sell.
I had to sell one of my pets who wasn't producing last fall and I hated it!!
Wow, Stubby is looking all grown up in that video, and it didn't take him long to launch his rider.
I'll be watching for Stubby at the big rodeos in a couple of years. As for having to sell him, dang. That would be hard... especially one as special as Stubby.
Stubby did really good and gave chase at the end.
