Some Days Really Suck

And this was one of those days.

Last week, the husband mentioned Zena had lost weight.  We hadn't noticed because of her winter coat.  But by this weekend, it was bad.  She had lost a lot of weight.  She had no other symptoms of sickness.  She was still going out with the husband and being active (a little less pep in her step though).  I bought her wet food and the husband started her on it.  She ate it right up.  I cuddled with her while we did outside chores yesterday.  She wanted her tummy rubbed.

This morning the husband went out to get her to go feed the bulls.  He found her on the side of the house, no longer with us.  We are stunned.  I feel guilty for not taking her to the vet last week.  I'm just numb.  I've never lost so many dogs in such a short amount of time.  This is the third in just a little over a year.

I especially feel bad for the husband.  He and Zena had a close bond.  She was his girl.  He laid her to rest out by the tank next to Duke and Lil Man.  We'll make a cross to hang her collar on to mark her grave later this week.

We will miss her so....

My heart breaks for you! You go ahead and cry. Matter of fact, I might just cry with you. It's hard to loose one of your kids. It doesn't matter if they have hair and extra legs, they are loved the same.

I am SO sorry to hear about Zena. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet...a part of your family. I just lost my best friend of 13 years last February. I know it is hard but do try to remember how happy you made your Zena by loving her and letting her love you. She lived the best life abd sge was loved so much.

Oh Hun... I'm so sorry for your loss!
I know this may not sound right, but hopefully you'll understand what I mean...
I'm glad that it was quick, and that she wasn't suffering at the end - she had a good finish to an excellent and happy life.
That photo of Zena and the Husband gazing into each others faces, is perfect!!!
You're all in my thoughts and prayers...

Princess & George, so sorry for your loss. I know how much you love your "family" and spoil them. Don't beat yourself up about what "could have been", it could possibly have been something that a vet couldn't fix. You loved and pampered Zena and then she was ready to go.....over the rainbow bridge....luv u....mimi

Rest well dear Zena , so sorry for your loss ,both of you. She was a lovely dog,and clearly got lots of love from you . My niece has a prof in vet school who says"Sometimes when the good lord calls them home ,there is nothing we can do to stop them" Maybe it was time for her to rest and just watch over you all.
Hugs

Oh my goodness!! I am SO sorry to hear that! Zena was a beautiful dog, and she was so very lucky to have you guys! I know she could not have had a better life anywhere else! Do not be hard on yourself, there is no way you could have foreseen this and it's not abnormal for dogs to have off days as you thought they were...The pictures truly are beautiful! You guys will be in my thoughts and prayers...

So sorry to hear about Zena. Its always so tough. Don't feel guilty... she just would have been poked and prodded at the vet... and the ending would probably still be the same.

There is not a whole lot anyone can say to make you feel better. So, all I can say is I am sorry and I sure know how you feel! Your dogs are almost like having a child. My thoughts are with you both!

So sorry - she was an adorable, happy, and well loved dog who had a wonderful life with ya'll. Really hate that part of having animals, the time always seems too short.

So sad! Hugs to you both. The second photo brought tears...Wonderful photo tribute. My old cat is losing weight rapidly, and we've done everything we can for him, but I think his time is close. The time we get to spend with our beloved creatures is always too short, but the love we give them is never wasted.

I am so sorry for you and the hubs on your loss of Zena. I guess she figured she had gotten Diesel off to a good start so she could rest now. It's never easy to lose any of our pets but there are those who were just a bit more special than most.

Tear filled eyes and big hugs to both of you and many thanks to Zena for some good stories.

Iam so sorry to learn of Zena..she was such a loving dog and like a kid to you both. She will be missed but ..Please remember that you two gave her such a good home, full of love and that's the best we can ever do for our four legged friends. Being a lover of big dogs I can't tell you how sad this makes me. I can hear both of mine snoring downstairs in the family room right now raising the shingles on the roof.

I'm so sorry for your loss and for the hard year you have had with your dogs. Life just isn't fair sometimes.

Sending a big hug to you and your hubby too!

My deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved family member. Zena was lucky to have had you for so long. Good dogs guide us through our lives. I lost my 17 year old last year and still haven't made the adjustment. Janis

Oh Kit! I'm so sorry! this is what I get for being behind on my blog reading! You know, sometimes these things just happen and there's nothing we can do. You're a good mommy so don't fret about that. She's up there running around with my Texas dog now! He's got a friend.
