Well, Stubby had a bad day. We tried him out of the right hand delivery and he seemed lost. We'll go back to the left and hope for the best.
Anyhow, since we were first out, I spent the rest of the time practicing my rodeo photography. I really need a flash and a different lens. I put some of the better pictures on the slide show below. Some are blurry but it's the best I could do with the equipment I had. I really look low tech compared to the professional rodeo photographer there. But I always do. One day I hope to get the proper equipment. Then they better watch out, I'll be takin' their jobs!!
Well Sydney, couldn't tell ya. We left before they posted the results. The husband had to head to Arizona so since we knew we didn't win, we didn't stick around.
WOW!! girl thaose are some incredible shots! Can't imagine better , but you will show us I am sure . Too bad Stubby had trouble , next time will be better , maybe he is just waiting to be seen by the right group?
Those are really great pictures! I feel your pain with shooting all of these and not being totally pleased. Your 85mm should be a great lens for this. I went to your Flickr page and looked at your EXIF data to see what you had your camera settings to. I have found Aperture Priority(AV on your camera) to shoot action really well. And maybe try shooting 2.8 instead of wide open. Probably your best bet before buying another lens or flash set up is buying a tripod. I think you'll get some sharper action images with one. Especially when you are watching your own bull go through his moves. If you are at all nervous, your camera will sense this. LOL! What fun. These bulls can really move!
THose are some awesome shots!! You have to tell me the secret of taking indoor rodeo pictures!! I love the ones of the gray bull with black specs that was "flying" above the "Hy O Silver" poster!! He is one heck of a bucker!! Some of those boys can move!!! Man!! Talk about vertical!!
I am would really LOVE to know how to take good indoor rodeo pictures. I have been trying all summer long to get some good ones of my kids rodeoing.
Sorry Stubby didn't do so well. I hope third times the charm!! You guys will get it next time around!!
DANG!! I was so excited when I seen the title of your post..That stinks that he didn't win!! OK so when is the next one?!?!
You know we have a "PBR Professional Photographer" that does DD's rodeo pictures at this one circuit she runs and your pictures are as good as his!! He has all of the bells and whistles and lights everywhere...I'm thinking I love you natural raw talent!! I know as a photographer you will critique your own work but honestly I think you did a GREAT job!!! I especially love the picture of the bull flying sideways through the air LOL!!
What camera do you use?! I know you have told me before but my brain forgot :~)
You did great, and with the equipment you want, you'll be awesome! I swear those bulls were doing ballet. Looked like a great competition...let us know how Stubby did.

Just a nudge, but for sports may I suggest the Tamron 18-275mm it a fast focusing lens and a bargan...:-) Great shots on the other page..
