On the Rodeo Trail with the Wife

The Husband isn't the only bullrider in this house. I spent many a seconds on the back of wild beasts myself! Yep, that's right, I was a roughy. The only girl around riding rough stock at the time. And the most stylish I might add....pink silk shirt and red cowboy hat! Come on!

I remember me and my mom walking to the back pens and checking out the stock. We would discuss which one we hoped I would draw. I remember one time mom picked one out cause it matched my hair. Yes, it was serious business!

I dined on arena dirt most times. No need for frito pies, I was full of sand. I think they had to drag the arena after one of my rides cause I dug a ditch with my head.

My roughy days were short lived however. Once I got old enough to advance to the next level, steers, I decided to hang up my bull rope. I wasn't much for horns!

Yu rock! I've ridden some rank horses, but I drew the line at calves or even cows!

What a CUTIE!! The only horn I hope to ever face down lives in the middle of my steering wheel. And it's dangerous enough with the bullheaded person who mans it.

Oh my goodness, you really cowgirled up back then! I would have left the sport once the horns came along, too! Cool photos....thanks for sharing them with us!

I had to laugh at "horns"! Over here, a horn is a errrmmm... "manly bit" somewhat like wedding tackle. HAPPY wedding tackle at that. *blushing*

You look so darn CUTE in that red hat though and it's easy to see that you've always been a pretty little thing!
Thanks for sharing the pics !!

Tatersmama, what do they call horns down under?

I'm with you. If I'd ever had the chance to ride one of the baby bulls or steers... don't give me one with anything that can hook me. That's when I'd hang up my bull rope.

Helen, if a cow's got 'em they're called horns too, but since this is mainly sheep country, you don't see all that many cows. So "horn" is almost always used as a descriptive term for men's bits that aren't on the dangle. *blushing*

Great photos! I could see Liz doing all that stuff if they had it around here. She still shocks guys when she will run up on a big calf and flank it down to work on it....most of them can't. lol

Wow, you were one brave girl. I loved going to the county fair--the rodeos were my favorite part--but never, would I have ever braved the back of a bucking horse, cow, calf or bull!

The only "rough stock" I ever rode was those bucking machines in the bar! I was bull rider "in training"...thought I needed to keep up with my cowboy! Never was brave enough to feel real live hide on my hiney..
Way to go! and I'm not really surprised!

Not to be rude or anything, but you have to be CRAZY to do something like this. If bulls were meant to be ridden, God would have given them steering wheels...I'm just say'n.
