Taming The Wild Beasts

How do you tame a young bull? The same way you tame a wild man, with food! When we first separated the bulls and heifers, they were a tad bit wild. The minute you walked into the pen, they would bolt to the opposite end. But they soon learn you bring food and good tidings when you enter the pen and started calming down. Now they wait at the gate for me. But if anyone new comes around, they bolt just like they did in the beginning.

We've bonded a lot over the past few months. When it's just me and the bulls, they are very calm. I started feeding one by hand awhile back. Then more become interested until now almost all of them eat out of my hand. The husband is NOT happy about it but we won't tell him, right?!

I thought you would like to see how I tamed the wild beasts. I set the camera up on the truck today to take some video. Sorry it's a little lop-sided.

Pushy Buggers...they backed you right out of the picture.

PS....don't want to seem like a old nanny goat....but you be careful.

They are suprisingly well behaved. Nothing at all like the bulls I deal with at work!

I miss having cows! :(

omg I would never do that, you are so brave. I am scared to death of cows/bulls/bovine ...

Someday I might pet one of the FIL's cows, but most likely not.

Hahaha how funny to see how quick them warmed up to you when they realized you had food. What exactly were you feeding them?

Uh, yea, I would have been on the OTHER side of the gate, thank you very much! ;) Me don't like horns, even those little buggers!!
Glad to see they are making friends with ya, though!

Girl..you got the makings of the next BULL WHISPERER! That was too much, but I do trust that you know how to move real fast cause even the tame ones like to give you a real hard old punch with their heads.

Hhhmmm. They seem a little on the "piggish" side if you ask me!

Oh my! Aren't they just the sweetest little things??? ;-)

Just don't let the Husband see the video... and practice your running and fence jumping, while you're at it!

I wish someone had been out with me this afternoon. The calf, now turned near 2 year old, that I bought as a day old baby at the college dairy sale, was up at the fence line. I went over and was rewarded with bovine kisses, which brought the rest of the heifers looking to see what was going on. I was very popular in about 30 seconds. Though they are dairy heifers. Not quite as bad as bulls will get.

But nice video. Def don't let the husband see it!

And oh so pretty bulls!

Wow, spooky! This morning I also made a video of feeding up and I'm in the process of uploading it (in another window). Great minds hey!

Loved it! Reminds me of when I was about 10 years old. I tore off long bunches of grass, then crawled under the fence into the pen where our bull was and fed it to him. He was happy and content to be eating nice luscious grass from my hand. I swear a bond started developing between us. Ummm, that is until my Dad found out about it later and forbid me to ever go near that bull again!

The husband is probably worried you could have those bulls so docile they'd never buck again! LOL

Well, they certainly aren't shy when it comes to food! I love the white faced one who kept trying to wrap his tongue around it.

oh my gosh they are so damn cute!! And well behaved. If I had tried that with the heifers when we had them I would have surely had a head butting episode on my hand.
Eww gotta love those sand papery, slimy tongues.

Ok Wifey...I watched really really close...
You were very conscience to make sure they each got their treats when their nose was present! That's cool! Attentive "Mom"!
Second...where did you get that OLD Folgers coffee can???? They haven't been around for years!!!
Thirdly....you are a lefty too?? (unless the video was reversed)

Oh they like that cake don't they? I had to make hubby watch to see you feeding all those bulls. We both decided though, when those guys put some weight on you better feed them through the fence because they're going to push you around!
