Rising Rainbow asked, " what about how you decided to name your blog.......that's got to be a story in itself."
I've had several wonder where I got the name for the blog. It's no mystery really, just pulled it out of my butt!
As I ponder more about it though, I think it had to do with how I was feelin' at the time of my blog's creation. The husband and I had moved to the big city for my job, leaving the place we refer to as home-a nice country town. People round here think I am looney for sayin' this is the "big" city but to me it is. I mean it has a mall, hundreds of eatin' places and Asian people makin' sushi in the grocery store! Come on, that's BIG CITY!
Anyhow, let's just say I stick out. All of my co-workers are from Texas yet they say I talk funny! My twang is a little more country I suppose and the use of my words may be somewhat different but I'm just a country girl. So when I started the blog, I wanted something that was true to me.
I grew up on gizzards and calf fries. That's who I am. I still eat gizzards on occasion. I mean, what's better than stoppin' at the gas station and buyin' some gizzards! And the husband stops by the chicken place on the way home sometimes and brings me some for supper. He's so good to me!
I haven't had calf fries in a long while. Luckily for our bulls, they get to keep all their male bits. See...here's Stubby's!
His are spotted which really fascinates me in some weird sick way!
So that's my explanation behind the name. Does it make sense? Probably not but do I ever?

It makes perfect sense. After I finally got out of the house and on my own I realized how important it is to hold on to what you are and where you came from even though you might be in a place that is a little different than what is "you." Oh yea...I really like Stubby's color...he's kinda purdy!
The husband said I made it sound like we LIVE in the big city. No I just work in the big city. We bought a place about 30 miles out of town in the middle of nowhere, just like I like it!
Hilarious! Spotted Boy bits!
BIg city! Asian folks making Sushi?
You are killing me... I love both, city life and country life. Not sure I could ever give one up for the other.
The city students were grossed out when I told them I ate calf fries. I need to find some and bring them up here for them to try... and NOT tell them what they really are. LOL
Well there ya go! I like stories based on the real thing and this is it. Knowing you, you'll appreciate my post today about the grittier side of country living: "Life on the Farm Ain't Kinda Laid Back." Come on over for a chuckle.
For some reason, I too am fascinated by speckled balls too---dont ask me why? And speckled horse peckers, but that is a whole other story of course
Any town over 500 people is a city to me!!! My hometown is 500 people and I was soooooo OK with that...I live in a "City" of about 12,000 and that's too big for me! Oh well, could be worse.
hmm somehow my blog name seems so ...plain, now. hahahaha I always wondered where and how you got your name. Pulled it outta yer butt huh? he he! Calf Fries? Are you tellin me that is another name for "Rocky Mountain Oysters" blink blink I never would have guessed. mmm yeah... never. Gizza..gulp...gizzards...ok I can't really say I don't like them, because I have never tried them. I do however like living out of town. So see we csan still be neighbors, you can have my share of icecream, and chicken innards, & bull balls. See I am a giving neighbor!! hahahahaha Spotted balls! bwaaahhaaa Only you sista, only you!
Oh goodness, I'm not sure about the gizzards or the calf fries! ;) I'm such a finicky eater. I barely eat steak, for cryin' out loud!
Here's a question for you~ is TW your blood sister, sis-in-law, or just your "sista?"
Pulled it out of your butt, love that. I love the name and I am glad to know where you got it, HA! Great post, keepin the male bits. :)
Oh Lord - spotted boy bits! LOL!
Cute. You, that is. Not the spotted boy bits.
Oh girl seriously ROTFL!!!! Spotted nuts! He he he! I can hook you up with some calf fries, when you're ready! We always have some in the freezer! A good friend of ours wife makes the best, sliced thin and spicy seasonings yummy! Gizzards are all right~not my favortie. My blog name to is alittle boring! I guess I could've done something more creative!
BTW~we survived the storm! Glad to hear you all did as well. We lost power around midnite and got it back around 9 this morning. That storm was insane the lighting, wind, holy cow! We are still having wind gusts today. Checked our fence this morning and it looks good. Limbs all over the place!
MMMMMM spotted calf fries. I moved from Houston to a small town in Eastern Tennessee. Talk about culture shock, but I would'nt live anywhere else. And being from Illinois they say I talk funny..:-)
Ha Ha I love it!!
In Australia we call them Bush Oysters. I freak people out here too they can't believe you really eat them.
Years ago I was a cook on a One hundred thousand acre cattle station(Ranch) the guys hadn't done a killer for a while and as I was getting low on meat I decieded to crumb & deep fry about 150 calf nuts(took me ages) they were such a sucess I have been so tempted to serve them to my city friends as an entree' ever since.LOL!!
Been a farm kid my whole life and managed to avoid eating "calf fries " spotted or otherwise so far . as for Gizzerds well I have tried them and eh maybe some days.
Great name mine is kinda boring but it is what it is
Tasty! Both of them. We never see gizzards up here though, calf fries will be on in June!
Calf fries? Are those anything like Mountain Oysters? My late-mom-in-law from Okalahoma made the BEST M.O's!!
I LOVE me some Mountain Oysters, but I have to admit, knowing that they may be speckled kind of makes me go "ewwwwww" !
OMG... my word verification is "etumb".
Those calf fries? Yes Mam, I etumb"
