Little Buckers!

Sunday morning we took the last of our 2008 calves out to see if they were going to be keepers or sale barners. Of course, Sunday morning was miserable. It was cold and windy. But that didn't deter us from our mission. We piled on the layers and headed out to our friend's arena. I think the babies were cold cause they bawled all the way there. Everytime we stopped, you could hear them. At one point, the husband got out to make sure they were okay. They were fine, just being very vocal about the trip.

Most of them had a good showin'. Here are two of the good ones. The first is a little heifer. I haven't named her yet. We bucked her about two months ago. She didn't fair very well so we gave her another shot. Sure glad we did.

Then there was this little bull. I call him Eyebrows cause of the markings above his eye. The husband says I have to rename him.

A couple will be headed to the sale barn this Friday. So long babies!

But a lesson was learned on Sunday......what was that you ask? Well, I found out that I can hold a camera pretty still while a pitbull humps my leg! Yeah, seriously!

I ain't got no pitbull on my leg and I still can't hold that dagum camera still!
Hubby got me a tripod, but I'm still working out the kinks with it. I still haven't gotten the macro down, but I'm trying.
So many of my pictures are "blured". Got any good advice?
By-the-way, don't you get attached to those baby calves? Naming them kinda makes them like pets, don't ya think?

LOL - that naughty pitbull!

And I just love the name Eyebrows!

Now that is talent! :)

Glad you have a couple buckers!

I think you should keep that name. I can just hear the announcer at the PBR Finals in 2015. "Eyebrows from Crazy M Ranch wins the Bull of the Year."

That gives a whole new meaning to the word multi-tasking! I think you should keep the name Eyebrows. He'll be the "cool kid" in the bucking pen. :)

Maybe the pit bull got turned on by watchin' all the buckin! hee hee.

How do you get heifers to buck? I thought that males had their 'things' tied up which made them buck, so what's the trick to females?

J and J- Heifers and bulls are the same. A flank rope is tied around their flank. I kinda tickles them. The bulls "things" are not tied up. Mostly, we try to get their genetics "right". Just like breeding for speed in racehorses or other traits, we breed for buckin'.

I snorted coffee with that last statement. They're going to start roughstock night up at our local arena this month again. I'm looking forward to taking my camera:)

Eyebrows isn't a tough enough name for buckin stock?

I am so glad you posted those videos! I have never seen that machine but I had heard of it!
When my Grandson was born I told my hubby I wanted to buy him a bucking bull- and if we got a good one it could pay for his college tuition. I'm still trying to work that out!

I had to LOL at J & J's...
I've heard that so many times, people believing they are tied up to buck..and yep, think the owners are cruel and won't attend rodeos for that reason!
I've told them, "Not so, but since you believe that, you just as well stay home as you won't enjoy the show!"

So you are the chosen one for handing out names? What was that pitbulls name? Good for you Lady! Multi-tasking...think the camera would have hit the dust in my case if he were humpin' my leg!

So, you'll keep the heifer just for breeding? I know for the pro's they use bulls of course, but for like PeeWee rodeo and such, do they use heifers too?

They both bucked great!

LMAO! That last part was hilarious! Love the little buckers, Mercy loved watching them and I told her, those will be bucking bulls when they get bigger (well not the heifer)
Speaking of which.. I'm with Karen, do the kids use heifers?
