Weapon of Mass Destruction

Yep, bolt cutters. The husband and I tore out some old fence and I was in charge of the bolt cutters. Pretty scary!

It was an old cross fence in our top pasture. We are re-organizing the place and there was no need for it any more.

So the wire had to come off. I was in charge of cutting the clips on the t-posts so the husband could roll the wire.

I'm thinkin' I had the better job! Cause I really stood around and took pictures.

But he did give me photography breaks! I took this one to show how hard he was workin' unlike someone else I know!

The heifers came up. They were very intrigued with what we were doing.

They thought the grass along the old fence line was the best thing ever!

And look, the mean 'ol bull, aka Mr. Grumpy Pants, was givin' me the stink eye.

He seems to enjoy coming at me at an increased rate of speed. And when there is nothing in an open pasture between us but an imaginary fence, I don't tend to appreciate it too much.

Sunday Stills-Powerlines

This week the Sunday Stills challenge involved powerlines and landscapes. I had just been complaining to the husband that I hated powerlines. He stated he would cut them down so I could take a decent photograph. I told him I didn't think that would be a good defense in court. "Yes, Your Honor, that's right...I did it for the sake of my wife's photography." Yea, not thinkin' that would fly to well!

So I took a picture of the neighbor's windmill that I drive by every day, wishing the powerlines didn't surround it.

You see those stupid powerlines! Argh! Well I tried another shot and look what happened...

They disappeared! They were on the viewfinder on the camera when I took the picture. But I had the aperture set at 1.8 so maybe it blurred them completely out of the picture?! When I go out intentionally trying to get powerlines in a shot, I can't even manage to get them! I amaze myself sometimes.

Cool New Stuff

I've received some pretty cool stuff in the mail lately. First, I won a giveaway by This DVM's Wife's Life. Woohoo, I was so excited! I received my package while I was shreddin' the last pasture on Saturday. I missed the Fed Ex truck but he was nice enough to leave it on my pickup. What a pleasant surprise when I drove up!

I got lots of goodies...

There was a picture frame, magnet, lotion, notepad (oops, forgot that in the pic?!), chocolates and a candle.

She didn't forget the kids either. They had two bags of treats. This is the only one left!

Then, this afternoon, the UPS man showed up with my new 85mm lens!!!! I had rented one and just about cried when I had to ship it back. I couldn't live another photographer's life's second without it so I bought it! Oh my goodness gracious. I've been waiting all week for it to show up. The husband said I looked like I was waiting on Santa this evening. I kept looking out the front window just hoping to see the UPS truck.

Well, it got her around 6:30 and after I did my happy dance, I put it on the camera. This was the first picture I took....

The husband doin' the dishes! I got my new lens and he's doin' the dishes. LIFE'S GOOD!

Exciting Buckin' Bull News

I can't believe I haven't told y'all the big news. I wanted to but I also wanted to wait until it was a done deal. I am superstitious about saying stuff and jinxing the outcome. But the contract has been signed and the check cashed so here's the news.

We sold half interest in Stubby!

After he won 2nd at the bull futurity, we had a guy in Colorado inquire about him. He asked if he could buy half interest. The husband discussed what we wanted for him and the requirements we would have and he accepted them!

Some of the stipulations are: we keep possession of Stubby, care for him and haul him. The partner pays for his futurity entry fees. This is a good thing cause those entry fees can be EXPENSIVE!

So what does this mean for us? Well, now we can enter Stubby in ABBI/NBBA futurities. If he places, then we get to take him to the finals in VEGAS! They are held during the PBR finals. We are so excited.
His next futurity is on June 13th. Then another on July 11th. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Unlikely Fishin' Partner

The husband and I went out to the tank Sunday evening. Mostly to let the dogs play, but for a little fishin' too. As we made our way out, the horses followed.

Who would have thought that Priss was a fishin' horse?
She was intrigued with the pole. And the worms in the sack. But I think all she really wanted was a pettin'.

This is quite a sight. The husband doesn't like Priss much. Usually they are tormenting each other. But they were both on their best behavior. Momma was watchin'!

Update on Itty Bitty

We went to check on the cattle at the lease place yesterday. Hadn't been over in about a week and a half. They are all doin' well. I wanted to show you some new pics of Itty Bitty. She's just sooo cute! I want to grab her and love on her but she doesn't want anything to do with me. I'm afraid she's gonna be wild as march hair!

But she's as cute as a bug!

She's standing next to an older calf....about a month older.

The calf on her right was born a couple weeks after her...

She's so small she literally can walk under the cows. Oh, and the black calf to her right is a week older than her.

It's hard to get a good perspective unless you show her next to several others. I love her little hooves. I love babies, especially itty bitty babies.

Sunday Stills- Yellow

I've had a hard time keeping up with the Sunday Stills challenges each weekend. But I made a point at getting it done this Sunday. The challenge was yellow.

I had the husband and dogs go with me to take this. They looked at me like I was crazy, squatin' out on the highway but I had a concept in my head. It turned out okay. I call it the Lonely Highway.

Then I found this picture from last year. Sunflowers are so bright and cheery. A total opposite of the above picture. This pic just makes me happy. Hope it does the same for you.

In Need of Supervision

Okay, I want you to look at the following pictures and guess what it is and what happened...

Hadn't quite figured it out yet?

Maybe you're gettin' close on what this is....

Here's a hint...it's part of a cowboy's attire.

Maybe the full view will help...

Okay, I'm guessing you have the what. So let's work on the how, shall we...

Our pasture before....

Our pasture after...

Got it?! Yes, the husband was shredding the pasture. I received a call and the first thing he said was, "I'm gonna need a new straw hat." My response, "If that's the worse thing you've ran over today, we're doing good."

He really needs constant supervision!

Yes, We Have a Cat

Have you met Miss Kitty? She doesn't make an appearance on the blog much. She came with the place. When we pulled in with our trailer of stuff, she appeared and has owned the barn ever since.

This is her typical look...kinda perturbed.

She stays in the barn, laying in the hay, minding her own business. She tries to relax but the dogs won't allow it.

They gang up on her. Chase her every chance they get.

But she's pretty clever. She runs up the ladder to get away.

I found her sleepin' in the wheel barrel the other day. I guess the dogs aren't smart enough to find her there.

I bet she thinks she got the short end of the stick when we moved in. Nothing like bratty dogs to deal with on a daily basis. Poor Miss Kitty.

A Lazy Day

We had a pretty lazy day here. Not much goin' on. I think we both just needed to slow down and rest for a day. I took the camera out with us when we went to feed. We caught a first...Stubby ate out of my hand.

Once he realized what a great concept this was, he didn't want to stop. He is such a good bull. We had to move some of the guys around this afternoon and he works so well for us. Rent-a-husband might disagree due to the time he had with him previously but for us, he does great.

Then we went out into the pasture to look at the tank. We've been gettin' some rain and wanted to check the water level. Zena thought she needed to take a dip. Sorry about all the wind on the video.

The girls were upset I didn't bring any cubes for them. They just knew I had some hidden somewhere.

Then the bull headed toward the tank. I'm still pretty leery of this guy. I took this video just in case things went bad and someone found my body. At least they would know what had happened.

Pay It Forward Fun

I joined this over at Country Whispers in February. She probably thinks I'm a bum cause I've not posted it yet. Promise, I'm not a flake! I'll uphold my end of the deal!! I was just looking for the perfect time.

So here's how it works....if you would like to participate in the Pay It Forward challenge, you need to leave me a comment. The original rules state the first 5 people to leave a comment get to play but if you really want to participate let me know. I bet we can make an exception!

Then, I will send everyone that is participating a special surprise. It can be homemade or store bought, just something uniquely picked out for you. I will ask that you shoot me an email with some of your likes (i.e. colors, scents, hobbies, collections, anything you specifically would want from me). You each will receive your gift by 08/01/09, if not before.

The only requirement to participate is that you MUST make the same offer on your blog. That's all there is to it! Pretty cool huh!

A small gift wrapped in a smile & a little support goes a long ways towards lifting the spirits of a total stranger who quickly becomes a friend.

Calf Fight

Yep, that's right...we don't have cat fights around here, we have calf fights. Creme Brulee and her momma were loaded up at the house and moved to the lease place. We wanted to put them with all the other mommas and babies.

Brulee transformed from a sweet timid little girl into a "don't make me open this can of whoop a$$" girl!

She didn't care who you were, she was gonna be the new boss...the Queen Bee of Calves, the Duchess of Dirt, the Lady of the Lease, the Princess of the Pasture.

This one didn't seem to understand so Brulee had to smack him around a little. I think from the look on his face, he got the point!

This one smarted off to Brulee. Said something like he was the boss 'round here and Brulee would never measure up. Brulee gave him a black eye! Don't know what I'm gonna do with that girl!

Oh, I also wanted to give you an update on Bucky. You remember her don't ya....

Poor little girl. Well, she grew into her teeth. This is how she looks now.

Isn't it amazing how much they change in such a small amount of time. Would you have known that was her?
